Florida AD calls for Kiffin Public Apology

If you hate Tennessee so much, why don't you go back to the muck from whence you came?

He is one of the scared Gator fans that created an account today to comment. Kiffin has got them riled up. The fact that he put together an awesome staff, stole 2 guys from Florida, and had a nice recruiting class with only a couple of months has put the fear in them.

Piss on Florida and their AD wanting an apology! Urban Meyer was classless to call a recruit repeatedly while on an official visit on another campus. Florida's AD is blowing the whole friggin thing way out of proportion. Did Tennessee's AD get their panty's all in a wad and ask for a public appology when Spurrier accused Kiffin of an NCAA violation?..........Hell no! Kiffin made his responce back at Spurrier and that was the end of it!

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Feb. 5, 2009) ? Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive has issued a public reprimand to University of Tennessee head football coach Lane Kiffin for his public comments made earlier today.

"Coach Kiffin has violated the Southeastern Conference Code of Ethics," Slive said. "SEC Bylaw 10.5.1 clearly states that coaches and administrators shall refrain from directed public criticism of other member institutions, their staffs or players.”

“The phone call to which Coach Kiffin referred to in his public comments is not a violation of SEC or NCAA rules. We expect our coaches to have an understanding and knowledge of conference and NCAA rules.”

So did Kiffin.

Kiffin def. messed up. I just wanna ask Mike Slive why no comments were made about Spurrier ripping Kiffin when he got the job?

It may be a highly disregarded rule, considered nitpicky, or one that is taken lightly, but if it was indeed phone calls then it was a violation.
For those that can't follow a logical train of thought, the rule states that during official visits a coach can make contact per Junior year rules. Under Junior year rules, it states that a coach is allowed one phone call per week. If CUM Bucket called even twice, then it was technically a violation.
It doesn't state a limit on emails or even mention text messages at all so if it were those instead of phone calls then who knows.

I think that's what is in question though. Meyer didn't make just one phone call ... he made several.

This whole thing is totally ridiculous. After watching the video of Kiffin saying this, I think he just made the comment sort of jokingly, or whatever, and people just took it the wrong way. It's not like CLK kept talking about it. He just mentioned it during a speech, and I don't think he meant anything by it. Maybe just getting back at CUM for something.
Granted, he probably shouldn't have said it, but he'll learn what he can and can't say in public I guess. It's just a shame that it got out of that room, but of course, the media are to be blamed for that.

It is not a violation, but Kiffin knew that. He wanted Meyer to make sure he knew about what he was doing so he wouldn't do it again when UT has recruits on campus.

It was a smart play. He said that he was going to turn him right here - meaning to all the people at the conference and the media.

He had no intention of filing an NCAA complaint because it isn't one. He did get the Gators attention though.

Mission accomplished.

Kiffin is alot of things but I dont think you can ever accuse him of being SMART.:whistling: or Grown up

OMFG dude! Were you born yesterday?..... am I gonna have to explain to you what was said between Spurrier and Kiffin?
calm down, no need to get defensive, we are obviously talking about 2 different things. I bolded the part where you said that Foley was overreacting and I said Kiffin did too, with his initial comment. At no time did I reference Spurrier.

Ive been busy so this is the first ive seen of this but its good to see Kiffin rallying the VolNation..but he just doesnt have the horses yet to rattle UF's cage..he needs a lil more time.

Thank you for a rational response. Hopefully, UT will be back to competing with Florida again in the future.

Honestly, I think our coaches need to tone it down a little bit and let their talking happen on the field and in the recruiting rankings. I'm happy with our recruiting class, given the time these guys had, but I'm not as happy with their "class," if you know what I mean. I can't understand why it is necessary or helpful to take these shots at Meyer and Saban. Just kick their tails on the field and be quiet.

Well said Vagabond Vol

There's a knot in Urban's turban...isn't it interesting that a defending national champion coach is all a-twitter about a "novice"? Boys & girls, the fun has just begun.
