Flip it, which were the best in state recruits to play for schools outside the state?

Leroy Thompson from Knoxville (A-E) went to Penn State.
I know this one always baffled me how that came to pass. Seems I saw him in the AE state championship game/team back in the day, that Team if memory serves had several D1 players.

I sat with their crowd at Vanderbilt during the State Championship against Brentwood Academy. They were shouting "Who dey, who dey, who dey think they're gonna beat A-E!" It's amazing the talent that school put out in the early 80s and mid 80s. Joey Clinkscales, Von Reeves, Leroy Thompson, Reggie and Raleigh McKenzie, Joe Fishback, just to name a few.

Patrick Turner and Marlon Brown were at best average in college which probably is how Josh Malone will turn out. Five star wide receivers out Tennessee have not lived up to their hype recently in just about every case.

D.D. Lewis

The coaching staff did not recruit D.D. out of Knox Fulton, thinking he would automatically sign with UT, being a local Knoxville kid. Pissed, he signed with Mississipi State and became a All-America linebacker and went on to a superb NFL career with the Cowboys.

My good friend, Johnny McWhirter, who played running back for MBA, talked about playing against EJ and what a tough, physical player he was. He said after the game, they looked each other up and EJ told him that Johnny was the toughest running back he'd played against all season.

This is not a long list.
No biggie.
We've done A LOT more damage by poaching from ievery other state.
The only one that stings is Ramsey, who was recruiting against us. It was good to see him get clowned by Clemson.
Spurrier did some damage, but we got the last word on him at both Florida and SC.

Yeah, but you still can't spell Citrus without "UT".

He's a legacy, too. What the hell were they thinking?

He was only a 3 star, do not want.

Seriously, what were they thinking? Well, it was the previous regime so that answers your question
right there. And Tyson Clabo spent 10 years in the league too. Makes you wonder how many legacies
we totally whiffed on over the years?

Before that from BA as well receiver Jimmy Hockaday went to Georgia. A lot of early D1 kids out of Brentwood Academy went out of state it seemed like. Tickled that got locked down.

The reason Thompson went to Penn St was Reggie Cobb emerged as a premier RB.

He ended up at Ridgeland (GA) He played his first 2 years at Chattanooga Central. But, yes, he was recruited out of Ridgeland (GA)

But he lived in the Ooltewah, TN while he went to Ridgeland. (where his mom worked)
