One thing occurs to me. Remember all the Florida fans who used to post on vn.com regularly? And when any of us told them they were only here to gloat, they said, "we'd be here win or lose, we just like discussing football." Heh. See any of them posting regularly now?

They may still be lurking, and one of them may even respond to this note. But fact is, they're pretty much not around any more.

They were just here to gloat. Damn lizards.

Go Vols!

Agreed…. But I’ll believe it when I see it, and not sure even then…..

Last time we had a “sure fire” beating lined up for them was 2002 in Neyland .. with a totally loaded NC calibre team against Ron Zook… and we turned it over five times inside of our own twenty - in one half - in the pouring down rain…. So I’ll never assume anything against them… ever.
Many of the people posting here either weren't around for that season or have simply forgotten about it.

Preseason top ten. 8-5, with a bowl loss to Maryland 30-3

How Tennessee plays against NMSU will tell me a lot about the rest of the season. See Wyoming 2008.

A couple still post in the recruiting forum and NCAA forum, 99gator and Lawrence Wright. They are pretty decent guys. I remember a guy named "Jaws" who used to post regularly though who was super condescending. I haven't seen him around in awhile.

They play well against Georgia. That meant we have no chance. They struggle a week later and that means it’s our best chance ever to win there? It’s always a struggle for us to beat them at home. It just is.
It’s been said before that teams get a one game boost after a coach is fired. Whether that is motivated by playing well for the interim, pressure being lifted, whatever.

Then they settle back into mediocrity. For Arkansas, that game came against Tennessee. For Auburn, that game came against Vanderbilt last night. For Florida, it came against Georgia. But now they seem to have thrown in the towel. I guess we will see. They did have about 20 players out last night with injuries. I wonder how many would have played through it if this season wasn’t effectively over for them.

And some say the rest of the season doesnt really matter. Heupel CAN NOT lost this game.
Exactly. This is college football. Specifically, it’s Tennessee college football. It always matters. Every game matters. And I don’t care if Florida doesn’t have a win all year, I will take pleasure in beating them. So yes, it matters. And Vanderbilt sure as hell matters. I hate both of those teams and want to beat them badly.

The 22 years thing is overhyped. More like 11 years.
It always is....something for the miserables to whine about...we had a long losing streak vs Bama and Florida and that was all that whined about on this board, and now that Heupel has beaten them multiple times its switched to "yea but Florida sucks" or "yea but he didn't beat Bama 3 times in a row"

Wright has always been a good dude. It’s a shame he’s a gator and not a Vol.

Why is that? I just look back to 2020 or 2019, I can't remember and Florida best Tennessee 47-21 in Neyland.

How come programs come into Neyland and don't worry about it winning easy but our sad sack program can't do that back to them. Why can't we go down there and win 47-21?

Pretty sure we were preseason top 5 in 2002. We had lots of injuries that year, even more than this year, but that’s not the reason we lost to Florida. We lost because Casey Clausen forgot how to handle a snap.

I was at that game. There's NO comparison between then & now.
The players quit to "stick it to the admin/fans".

I talked with 3 the week after that game, and they said "guess they should've have fired our coach if they wanted us to go to a bowl"

Yeah, we had some injuries. Casey was out for a couple of games and a couple of our WRs were hurt.

Don't forget, we beat "the worst Bama team in 20 years" each time. Same with Florida.
