Ran the ball 51 times for 254 yds and 2 TD's = 4.98YPC

12 for 19 passing for 165 yds and 1 TD = 63% Completion Percentage

Ran the ball 73% of total plays
Threw the ball 27% of total plays

Thoughts.....

If you told me those numbers Friday night, and say we had even turnovers, i guarantee a victory.

Best running output we've had against Florida in many years. No problems with the gameplan since we do not have open receivers or a great passing QB. Very impressed that we got that many running yards against Florida who gives up an average of 55 per game until this week.

wr caught 3 passes. you have to look deeper at the stats to tell a complete story. The offense is good untill the opposing team knows what to key in on to stop it.

That's why the running game has been impressive. Defenses know the Vols are running. No doubt Hurd is a beast, but I also saw nice blocking by the WRs and TEs.

What was the total of passing yards (of the 165) of our dressed 9 WR's? about 100
What was the total of passing yards (of the 165), as caught by our QB? about 65
What % of total passing yardage gained was from called plays to our QB? about 65%

What was the total of passing yards completed by our QB? 18, for about 100
What was the total of called passing yards gained as completed by a WR (/other than the rostered-QB)? 1, for about 65.

Look guys.....

the last drive before UF scored killed us. We ran it 3 straight times with Dobbs running on 3rd and long.....and it FOOLED NO ONE. He was tackled by 4-5 defenders. That 3rd down play ultimately killed us. It would have been a great time for a screen pass to a TE instead of the same play you've run 10+ times all night. If we would have got a first down, - game basically over.

Don't like that one? Well, lets turn to defense....

On 4th and 14 with 1.35 on the clock UF was in a passing down obviously. Rather than rush 4-5 guys (with one blitzing) like we did all night which contained them. We only rushed 3 and left the 4th to "spy" and dropped the 5th into coverage. UF QB had plenty of time, found his guy (in double coverage no less) and the rest is history.

One bad play call on defense which departed from your norm all night. Why? Why?

We have not shown we can throw the ball down the field. They stack the box and say beat us. We can't.

Passing yards, while still very low, were completely skewed by the 2 trick play passes by Jennings and Kamara. Passing game is completely non existent, no commitment to throw the ball whatsoever by this staff. None.

You do remember we scored a touchdown in the 4th quarter, right?

And only one 3 n Out the whole second half iircc.

It doesn't matter though. For years the know it alls on here have been screaming "RUN THE BALL". Now they arent happy because we aren't passing enough.

We may have averaged nearly 5 yards per carry over the whole game, but what was the average yards per carry in the last half of the fourth quarter when it mattered?

I remember some time during the 2nd half Gary Danielson said..."you know, Tennessee is doing everything about perfect, running the ball, moving the ball, making stops."

Verne said, "and?"

Gary said "and it's still a 1 possession game."

He was right.

I think the ypc is inflated due to a number of long runs. The more interesting stat would be what percentage of the 51 rushes were 3.5 yards or more.
