'24 FL EDGE Elias Williams (Mizzou commit)

This guy is 6’4” 270 in high school. Not sure why On3 would list him as an “Edge” instead of strong side defense end (SDE).

I think of someone they list as edge to be a speed rusher /pass rushing specialist.

2024 DL Elias Williams (Missouri Commit) was in, and he is one Tennessee is going to work on down the stretch. I expect him back for an official, and the Vols would love to add him, in my opinion. He will see Missouri next week and Alabama at some point. November will be most likely when he is back to Knoxville.

“I kind of liked how it was a really good game,” Williams said of what stood out. “It wasn’t one-sided, and it really gave me a chance to see the entire defense. They had some guys step up. The offense screwed up a couple of times in the red zone, so for the defense to get put in an odd position multiple times, it was a really good thing to see how they adjusted.” “I really enjoyed the culture and all of the traditions,” Williams said of this. “Watching everybody like the fans go crazy from 3rd down, to incomplete passes, to a touchdown. It was amazing. You can tell they have one of the best fan bases in the country.”
“They have been on me a lot,” Williams said. “They are constantly texting me and letting me know they want to get me up here. They want to get me up here. It was good to get up here and see that they have something good up here.” “Really enjoyed talking to them,” Williams said. “When I got here, they told me that I am not just another guy, but I am one of their big targets at the moment. They told me really feel like everything I do fits their scheme.”
Now the big question for Williams is did the Vols do enough this weekend to get an official visit? “Most definitely,” Williams said of this. “If they are going to show me this attention on my unofficial, I am excited to see what they will do on my official.” “I will have to talk to my family and get that set in stone, but I would like to come back for that Georgia game,” the coveted prospect said. “I think that will be a really good game.”

After getting Elias Williams into town last weekend, Tennessee continues to feel strongly about the evaluation of the Missouri defensive line commitment, and we expect the Vols to prioritize him moving forward. He enjoyed his time in Knoxville last weekend and came away impressed with the way Tennessee's defensive line played, but this will not be an easy flip to pull off, as Missouri has a lot of staying power, and Alabama is also pushing. As of now, we expect him to be back in November for an official visit.

If Tennessee and Alabama are both pushing, no way he ends up at Missouri.

Why not? They had solid defensive line play last year under Drinkwitz and their NIL is clearly not bad with the fact they landed Nwaneri and likely land Wingo. Plus with the season they are having I’m sure they will capitalize on that momentum some.

If their boosters are that serious in throwing money, why not invest in someone better than Dorkowitz first?

Because their stadium and facilities suck and no elite coach is going to coach at Mizzou. Drinkwitz is probably the best they can do in this era of college football to be honest.

Go check out the tv ratings of missouri games that are actually televised and compare that to alabama and tennessee game ratings. Then check out some pictures of that joke of a stadium. They may trick a misguided player or 2 with that early money law, but watch when happens to recruiting when they start getting whipped down the stretch.

I’m sure TV ratings are high up the list of a 17-years old kid when deciding where to go play college football.

Nwaneri and Wingo are instate players for whom MO's specific state NIL laws is in play. That's not relevant for Williams.

That said, I understand that Williams does like the Mizzou staff a lot so it might not be an easy flip per se. He's going back there this weekend, which on the one hand is a good sign for them but on the other hand is going to be a STARK contrast in terms of venue/atmosphere in a way that will only enhance what he just saw in Knoxville.

WIlliams seems to have become priority #1 on the DL for Garner due to his massive size and athleticism that comes with it. I think we're going to be on him hard until NSD, and that the staff would love to pair him with at least one of the JUCO DL they have OV'ing as a capper to what *could* end up being a really nice DL class.

I hope Beamer stumbles into a win. Hurt Mizzou and give him another year to tank his program further.

You are right, high profile athletes could care less about national TV exposure. What was I thinking?

If TV ratings were a significant factor into a 17-year old kids decision, then like 6 programs in the entire country would get any recruit. It’s also the SEC, you’ll get exposure on TV regardless of where you go. You act like Missouri is East Tennessee State.

I don't think the early money is a big thing for Wingo. He is at best getting money 6 weeks early. thats maybe 2 or 3 payments early. Its certainly a difference, but not a huge one. If early money was an issue it seems like he would have gotten it even earlier. jmo.

it could be a dollar amount issue, but the timing doesn't make a ton of sense as the justification.

Dorkwitz honestly isn’t that bad of a coach, is he P5 worthy? Maybe, he is having a good season so far. He definitely would be good at a g of 5 school or as a OC somewhere

eh we will see. he was on the hot seat for a reason. He has lost to the only good team he has played, they only beat Kentucky because Kentucky fell apart. K State was a solid win, but they aren't as good as they were last year.

I think its just a flash in the pan year, like Beamer at the end of last year. everyone assumed he had completely turned the corner and that SC was going to be good, but not elite, from then on. how they look against us and Georgia will tell us a lot more than how they look against the rest of the east.

Don’t necessarily disagree but that’s what everyone said about Nwaneri. Realistically it doesn’t make sense for either of them to go to Mizzou given their other options, but here we are…
