“He gives an exceptional effort at practice,” First Academy head coach Jeff Conaway said. “We were just talking this week as a coaching staff that the way that he gives great effort and attention to detail and his focus, ability to be coachable and ability to adapt and learn has been very encouraging for us this season. He’s played multiple positions and proven that he can play corner, safety, weak safety and nickel. So when you have a player, that’s willing to do those things, willing to work and perform extremely high at each of those positions that’s a coaches dream.”

A leader on the field, Conaway says Whitfield has traits you look for in a playmaker. “Well, of course he has the physical abilities. He’s got good size for a nickel corner DB. He moves extremely well and he’s fast. He does a great job of just having that football IQ that you want so he’s able to be that dual player. The guy that can fit the run extremely well but also a guy that can cover anybody on the field. Those are those power 4 qualities and in our opinion and he does it extremely well at high school level.”

Plays nickel at a top program in Florida that plays a national schedule. Solid pickup for STAR. 5'11/185. Good size with tackling ability. Seems like a solid pickup. Added some big offers such as Ohio State since the summer when Tennessee offered
I've never heard of The First Academy and I live here in Orlando area. Must be a charter school or small private school. But not a top program in Florida, not even close. But regardless, welcome aboard to the kid. Hopefully we start recruiting more Florida kids especially the big 3 South Florida, Orlando, Tampa and hit what we can get out of Lakeland and Ft Myers too but with Miami winning again, South Florida will be a challenge now but there is enough talent to go around all over the State but appears our coaches hasn't even tried to recruit Florida for whatever reason.

I think it's a newer program. They've been really good the last 3 years. They're 4-3 right now but on a national schedule. Just got beat up by St Frances Academy

1st Academy is top 10 florida team according to MaxPreps.
They are 4-3 with close close losses to open the season against Milton (Ga.) and Central (Ala.). Just got beat bad by St Frances Academy (Md.). All 3 losses to top natl programs recently out of state. Beat Venice, but I don't know how good they have been

That's what I thought because i hadn't heard of this school before but because of overcrowding and population boom they are building new houses left and right hence more schools are having to open to just to keep up with the massive overcrowding of schools. I see they play Lakeland. Lakeland always has good teams

I would love if we would get back to recruiting the Lakeland area and even smaller cities in same county of Lakeland like Lake Wales, Lake Placid, Bartow, Frostproof. We landed so many great players during Fulmer years with Alvin Harper, Tony Thompson, Travis "Cheese" Henry and a couple other all from this tiny area.

Ivins from 247 also mentioned that he’s only 16 so he’s still got lots of physical development left.

Venice not much talent, every now and then one will pop up. It's basically a retirement city on Southwest coast just south of Sarasota. We signed a kid from Venice who was a 4 star big WR Malacai Wideman I think during Butch or maybe Pruitt days and he turned out to be a huge bust and ended up transferring to Jackson State to play for prime
