It was mentioned in another thread that we wouldn't be able to tell much from the C-N game but I agree with the article. Look for the passes, the shot selection, shooting %, and the defense against the three. Those things have to improve for this to be a better season than last.

Why do we only play 1 game, most schools play 2?

“I believe championships are won when you get post touches whether they’re good or not. We started our smaller post players. They’re quicker. They’re faster, and then we come in with two bigger post players. We’ve got a lot of weapons in there, and that could change from game to game depending on who we play. You can run a different offense with the group that starts, and then you can run a different offense when you come in with Kalani (Brown) and (Lauren) Cox. You’ve got to have post touches in order for those perimeter players to be better and to be able to hit open shots. That’s just what I believe. You’ve just got to throw it in there.”

you need guards that can pass into said posts though and we be short in that aspect. :(

That's why I think DD should run the PG position. They have to guard her instead of lagging into the paint.

I think we will see some of that this year, I don't know why Holly didn't try that last season especially when it seemed like Diamond was in a funk. She is too good of a player and you can't defend her with a smaller guard because then she'd back them down, if you put a bigger defender on her she'd blow pass them. The bigs also must be able to catch the ball when it is put in their hands also. But I agree, I think when you go first subs and you take out a player like Reynolds Diamond should slide over to the point and Middleton or MeMe plays the 2 spot. I also think that at least Mercedes or Diamond should always be on the floor at all times unless they are in foul trouble. There should never be a time when both of them are sitting on the bench together unless we are blowing each other out. They are the two players that opposing coaches will game plan to defend and with us only having 9 available there are creative ways to utilize the two of them so that they are not having to be out of the game at the same time.

Diamond averaged more than three TO's a game, shot 39 percent from the field, and 25 percent from three.

If opposing teams didn't guard her, I wouldn't have guarded her much either.

most of her turnovers were passes that our butterfingered posts screwed up. She is always throwing to where they should be and they either can't move or fumbled the ball away.

And those numbers were far and away the best on the team of all of the guards, sadly enough.

I don't think that Reynolds, Middleton, Jackson or Nared have done much to warrant the attention of opposing team's defenses yet...

I can't recall what game it was but Russell literally just dropped or mishandled the ball like 3 times in a quarter and each time the ball rolled out of bounds and I believe it was Nared that barked at her. I could never figure out last year if it was that the passes were to hot for her or she just wasn't looking or prepared for the catch. I would certainly think the post coach has been working with her on that.

Not all of those fumbles were her fault though. Sometimes passes were literally at her feet and I think she struggles with gathering any sort of bounce passes. Today is the day though they get to start a new chapter and put all the other stuff behind them.

Mercedes has cast-iron skillets for hands. She is nowhere as good a catcher like Izzy, Glory or even Bashaara was, where you throw it in their direction and they will get the ball in the right position.

That accounts for about 60% of the post pass turnovers. The rest where the consistently terrible entry passes by the guards. Middleton was the only one who could perform anything other than a basic entry pass, and she suffered from overthinking whenever she was on the court. That needs to change for her this season.
