Anyone who thinks 9 wins is reasonable is stretching it a bit imo. Maybe if we were in the big10, but we're in the toughest conference in the nation. don't you think all the other teams are gonna expect to be better this year. Not saying it can't be done, but it shouldn't be a reasonable expectation.

List the teams that you think should beat UT this year. IMO, there are two on paper (UGA, Bama)... but I am not a believer in UGA. I would say that UF and USCe are more in the toss up category right now. Eight are "should wins".

3rd most starters in the country... No "young" excuses anymore... Well, nevermind...

Dooley said that... Hart repeated it.... Dooley said it several more times... Asst coaches are saying it... I think even some players have said it.

It is still a "young" team if you average out the class of guys who will play. But it is also a team with many players returning with alot of real game experience.

I have supported giving Dooley a fair chance... allowing him to coach a roster that can reasonably be expected to compete. If you have a competitive roster.... then the difference becomes coaching. THAT is what I want to see this fall.

Apparently some here either presume the staff can't coach or else think the roster is still not good enough to win... they say 9 wins is not reasonable.

IF the staff can coach then beating teams that UT has consistently outrecruited by a fairly significant margin for 3 years is not "unreasonable" at all. That includes everyone on UT's schedule except Bama, UGA, and UF... and the last two are close enough to be won by good coaching.

If the staff cannot win games with this roster then it is not very likely they're going to.

You are saying that 9 is not reasonable? So what is reasonable? Are you asserting that 7 is "reasonable" and should preserve DD in the job?

when did the head coach at Tennessee become an elected official? The last time I checked, we didn;t get a vote. Did I miss election day? Why not work with what we can control? Our emotions our expectations, and our support level ,for instance.

Read my posts. Put them in perspective.

As far as I know, the topic was not democracy though. It was our opinion on what should be "reasonable" for Dooley to win with this team.

But yes. Indirectly fans vote. By running their mouths here... they vote for or against recruits signing with UT. They vote whether the coach should be on "the hot seat" or not. They vote for how the program is perceived. By their mouths and dollars and attendance, they vote up or down on a coach's product.

I support Dooley. I have from the start. I want him to succeed. But more than that... I want him held to a standard of winning that UT should expect. He had a tough task. It really isn't "fair" that he inherited such a mess. None the less, the program is bigger than him.

Lmao this hurts recruiting? Bull****.

You can say what you like but MUCH more informed people than those who have a stake in protecting their "right" to be negative on a chat board are saying it hurts. Kids look. Parents look. Friends of recruits look. Opposing coaches look... and print to make sure recruits look. HS coaches look.

If the most noise about a coach is coming from those who want him fired then it can easily create the perception that the coach won't last. Recruits care about that.

If most fans are whining that their coach will never win a championship or their program is not close to winning... recruits care.

For that matter if a recruit thinks a coach is getting unfairly raked over the coals... they might assume that they'll get similar treatment by fans. Recruits want to be loved. They want their coach to be loved. They want their team to be loved with undying loyalty.

Sorry if you are too blind to see that those things are factors. Not the only ones... but still factors.

Correct!

Just off the top of my head and I might not be totally correct in facts but don't feel like looking.

Santo's recruitment showed some family was looking

Peters family posted on here and stated how upset they were towards the hatred from our fans - as well as we heard that coaches pointed Peters towards our board

Croom's mom - who is an asset to VN

Berry Brothers Recruitment linked a VN thread discussing Dooley as a failure for not contacting them (even though he couldn't).

That is from what little that I do read. I guarantee just about every recuit reads his Rivals Page/ ESPN Page/ and team threads that are started about him. I know that I would've in a heartbeat.

I fully support Dooley. And expect him and want him to be the coach here, BUT if he doesn't win 8 games this year then its just going to be hard to continue to back him. 7-5 would be such a let down with all the talent we have on offense ESPECIALLY since we COULD LOSE that talent to the draft and then have a lot more questions going into 2013. I don't expect that to happen, I think a 9 win season is well within reach, really excited. 2012 is a HUGE year to say the least. :D Go Vols!!

Without a doubt a fact! I posted a thread on here about my friend who is going to play for ULM and he had already read it before I even told him about it 2 days later! Everyone knows how to use Google. :p

all is good but we know Dooley is going to bring us back so why not get behind him and stop the neg :shaking2:

How about you homers stop telling people who are being realistic that they are negative and to shutup.

This site's terminology is downright childish. Nega this posi that. More like a bunch of people who cannot stand legitimate criticism.

Thin skinned babies.

You guys keep pulling out the "it hurts recruiting" card everytime you cannot handle criticism and want someone to shutup.

Let's be honest if any recruit or parent bases a decision on where to go to college on what people say on messageboards then they are idiots.

Which that point has been made over and over again by everyone. My point is that Dooley's "you better win __ or your fired" bar seems to be getting raised more and more.

How about we hope for a good season and let the cards fall before we start declaring "or he's fired" comments.

Whether you hate Dooley or like him is immaterial....the program was in the toilet when he got here and everyone that has watched at least two football games in the lifetime should have been able to see that it wasn't going to be fixed over night....not with Saban or anyone else.....there is still a long way to go in order to get back to the level of the 90's, but some stool samples on here think they should be in the SECCG next year

Legitimate, constructive criticism is good, but being totally negative is not productive at all. Do you really think the AD or any of the coaches give a crap about your negative criticism...or anyone else for that matter....so what's the use of spewing it out?

I daresay some of you "fans" would have Neyland himself crucified and hanging from a tree.

How about getting behind the program and supporting it for once.

Serious question, not hating. If we only expect 8 wins out of Dooley and he gives it to us then cool. I guess 8 is better than 5. When do we ever start actually becoming a national powerhouse though? 2013? Schedule is brutal is what everyone says. 2014? We replace all our O line and offense then probably. I just want to know what year we will be relevant again because if in year 4 or 5 with Dooley and we still aren't relevant then what are we doing?

If everyone stays in 2013 then the talent on that team will be able to manage the brutal schedule. IMO.

Back to the original post... Lots of returning starters, but keep in mind, many will still only be Sophomores. Still not as strong and knowledgeable as Jr.s and Sr.s. Even though they started some games, it doesn't necessarily mean they're really ready for prime time. We're also going to end up playing a bunch of Freshmen again this year. That's where the "depth" is going to come from. I don't know about you, but I was a long way from grown up when I was an 18 year old Freshman or even a 19 year old Sophomore.
We'll have a good year and we'll get even better recruits next year. It'll continue until we're once again, relevant on the national stage.
