i grew up catfishing in TN. very fun at night. i got to go ocean fishing once in Japan. loved it. went ice fishing a few times in Wyoming. was pretty fun. the absolute funnest fishing i have done is walleye. very expensive,(must have a quiet trolling motor and a good fish finder) but the fight is well worth it. by far the best eating of any fish. i would like to hook up with someone here in NC to try some bass fishing. ive done it a couple of times and really enjoyed it.

For the most part, i flyfish for native brookies here on the small streams, just catch and release. There arent many wild trout left here in CT, though i might keep 2 or 3 a year if they are hooked badly. Nothing prettier than a wild trout.

We also fish the lakes for Bass and Pike, and sometimes catch cats and pike on the CT river.

The hot time is late spring, when the Striped Bass make their run up the river from the sea, non stop action, sometimes 75-80 a day, though few keepers during the run (minimum is 24 inches).

In the summer, when the trout waters get too warm, it's off to the shore and the mouths of the big rivers for big stripers and bluefish. Didn't fare too well last year with the stripers, maybe a dozen keeper-size, though they found their way back into the drink. Not my preference for an eating fish. But when the tide is right, and the bait is in, you can have the time of your life. 10lb blues all day, and the occasional lunker striper hanging out underneath. Nothing better than being soaked to the core, standing in the surf, with 45lbs of Striper on the end of the line, tailwalking across the rips.

I like Crappie fishing with ultralight fly rod & reel. I've had good success with nothing more than a piece of pork rind. It is fun for all pan fish, particularly enjoy catching rock bass with flies. Like to trout fish. How do you like your new reel Mike?
Love the reel....I own a couple more the same kind....This is a ambassadeur record series, great for topwater....Real fast retrieve.

I went out this morning, from about 6-12....Went with the intentions to catch some crappie, but me and my buddy quickly realized that wasnt in the cards....Got out the Bass rods, with a baby shad rap and ended up with 8...Striper were biting pretty good, but i dont really like the way they taste....Those 8 bass are in the freezer right now, should go down pretty good tomm...

vkb, I agree. Nothing compares to deep sea fishing. I have a stuffed shark hanging in my room from a dsf trip. Anyone ever caught a Spanish Mackerel? That fish puts up one hell of a fight!! Find a good area for Grooper and you can fish all day without getting bored. Grooper for bottom, Mackerel with a floater, then fish meat for a shark... Good times. :)

As for fresh water... I tend to go for Catfish more than anything... I've caught a 37 & 31 lb Yellow Cat off a rod and reel. I've caught well over a dozen yellow Carp, they are usually 16-24lb. The biggest Carp I had was at least 30 lb.. my line broke because my friend scared the fish when it got close to the bank. I enjoy Bass fishing, but it's tough to find good fishing spots down here. I've caught a few 8-13 lb'ers. I once caught an 9lb Black Bass and off a piece off a gecko. The city pond is stocked with Crappie sometimes, so a few years back, I went the day after it was stocked and racked up 16 good-sized Crappie in under 2 hours! The Game Warden was around, so I had to throw a few back... but good Crappie fishing is a blast.

Anyone here ever caught a Golden Trout or an Alligator Gare? Speaking of Alligator Gares, on a kayak trip I took a couple weeks back, we saw one over 5ft long! Needless to say, no one wanted to go swimming. That thing was scary big.

Bass - Nightcrawlers, lizards, spinners, crankbaits, large goldfish/minows, etc
Catfish- homemade stink, store-bought stink, small perch, etc
Trout, Crappie - corn, whatever feels most comfortable [usually fly fish]

Goldens only live in the high Sierras right? I've caught Greenback Cutthroats when i lived in Colorado, thats a pretty trout!

I don't know where Golden's live... I've only caught one in my lifetime. I asked the Game Warden why I caught it in the city pond and he didn't know, he didn't even believe me till I showed him. A few weeks later he asked if there was a golden ticket inside. :)

It's a pretty wild fish, from what I hear, so I don't know how it got mixed in with the stocked trout.

Went on one deep sea trip and we caught about 150lbs of King Mackeral in 15 - 20 lb increments. They are good fighters too, and tasted pretty good that night on the beach by the old Daytona Road & Beach race track.

My brother caught an Alligator Gar once, nasty looking things.

Mackerel is on my top 3 best-fish-to-eat list. Love it!

Gares are nasty... Well, that's what I thought until I saw the one over 5ft long... Now each time I take a dip in the river I'm paranoid.

I like bass, crappie and cat-fishing. Sauger fishing is fun too.

As to what rods and reels I use, Shimano reels and G-Loomis/All Star rods.

Fished the Chickamauga Lake here in Chatt. yesterday. Water was terribly rough and high winds late in the day really made it tough. Slow day overall but had decent luck with chatter baits, rattle traps early...then caught a couple later with spinner baits. Lots of bait fish running so my guess is there were a lot of stuffed bass laying low.

I prefer Abu Garcia baitcasters and Shimano spinning reels.
