Who all in here enjoys fishing? What is your favorite species to fish for? Favorite lure, what lakes do you guys prefer?

Being a middle TN guy, I love Bass and Crappie fishing, with a little bit of catfish here and there. Fished alot of tournys, and my favorite lures for bass are; lizards, spinnerbaits and nothing beats a good buzz bait morning. I fish Barkley and KY most.

What about you?

I like Crappie fishing with ultralight fly rod & reel. I've had good success with nothing more than a piece of pork rind. It is fun for all pan fish, particularly enjoy catching rock bass with flies. Like to trout fish. How do you like your new reel Mike?

I'm not sure I've ever found anything more satisfying than digging up a few nightcrawlers or pulling a few crickets off the wall in the shed/building...and heading down to the pond for some bluegill/sunfish fishing.

On the other hand, I do like to fish for crappie ... but sometimes that doesn't seem quite as satisfying...

:) I will never be able to explain why...but I had an uncanny ability to bring in a bit more weight that my buddies at the end of the day...I guess if i had a clue what I was doing I would have been a bit more proud of that!

The fish know who you are, that's why they do that. :p

Maybe they were trying to help me build some self-confidence......such sweet fish, really :)

That's great.

Let me tell you about a time a fish was sweet on me...

Me and my uncle we fishing at Standing Stone Park one day. I had just got finished painting a plug that day and was using it for the first time. Well, I think I ended up catching about 20 that day and most were 2lbs and above. It had just started to rain a little and low and behold I caught about a 3 pounder. It was a nice fish until I got him in the boat. While he was still in the net, he started to flip around some. He calmed down and I started to take pliers and get out the hooks. As soon as I did, he flipped completely over cause one of the treble hooks (Gamakatsu) to go into my thumb and up to the bend of the hook no less. He kept flipping and it felt like he was going to tear off my thumb. My uncle finally got the line cut (Fireline) and he was going to do the line trick to get the hook out. Well, I told him let me get it out and just as I said that it came out without much of a problem. I felt very sick after that because I have a needle phobia. Needless to say fishing is still fun, but when I catch one I flip out a freeze taking out the hooks since I have only been fishing like 3 times since that happened in 06. I love to fish, but hooks freak me out now.

No, the fish didn't kick my ass the damn hooks did. I tell you what though, it's amazing you miss fish like you do sometimes. If a fish can catch me, then how the hell do they get off.

One thing I do know, the smallmouth me and my uncle catch bend hooks. When a fish bends the hook, that's a FISH!!

I had a similar experience once....I was down at a friend's farm camping with some buddies. I woke up early one morning and headed out to one of the ponds on the back side of the property. I landed about a 3 lb bass pretty early on ... was quite proud..and went to take out my treble hook (hooked him on the front treble of a broke-back minnow with double trebles) ..... as I went to get the front treble out, he really started kicking up and sunk the hook into my left middle finger. As I shook my hand pretty good and let out a "lilttle" cursing....he shook again and sunk the remaining treble into my right ring finger. Here I had both hands knee-deep in treble hooks and I was all alone. I felt like an idot...in chinese handcuffs. I tried to put my foot on the fish and get the hooks out...but I only succeeded (failed) in getting the hooks sunk even deeper and tearing up my fingers in the process. By this point, blood was beginning to flow and I got a little concerned. I had to eventually pick up the fish (with it flopping...I tried to stomp it to kill it but only made the situation worse).....and by the time I made it half way back I ran into a buddy who had woke up and was coming to do some fishing. Needless to say...I was VERY happy. So...I can literally feel your pain.

Yeah, but your probably not afraid of the hooks like I am. I used to just grab a fish without a second though, but after it happened my entire thought process changed. I think I will get a glove that helps keep the hooks out, I think that will relieve some stress of the situation. I also had my uncle dig out the same type of hooks from my thigh with needle nose pliers. I was fine after that and hooks didn't bother me until I got one in the thumb.

Yeah...I don't have a problem with needles..so my fiasco didn't generate any hook phobias. I still feel like an idiot over that incident though....

Shoot, I went to a Walk-in clinic when I got sick and after giving the nurse the runaround about taking my blood, I almost passed out when she pricked my finger to get blood. Something about my blood leaving my body doesn't sit very well with me. :dunno:

I have a friend here in Boston (he is actually from Canada) who is just like that...I can't really relate because I don't have a problem with it...but I know that it is a big deal for some people. I wonder what causes that to happen...

Mine started when I had a lymph node removed in 95. I about puked on my bed before they got me into surgery. For some reason after that, it's been a problem. I had it some early in life as well, but it left me until the surgery. Every kid is scared of needles, at least everyone of the one's I know.

Yeah..you're right about kids, no doubt. It does seem to leave after that...but for some it never does or it comes back. I think that it is one of those things that just is...

I know...I can't even bag a 3 lb. bass without shedding blood!! (or at least once, that was the case :) )
Craziest thing I ever saw was when my brother was gonna cast, came back and thought he was casting a lure into the lake. On his follow thru his line wouldn't go forward so he yanked the rod forward about 3 times without looking back because he figured he was snagged on a tree or something. Only problem was on his first cast attempt the lure "caught" my cousin's calf. My grandfather had to cut the hooks out of his leg...

Geez...your cousin didn't stop him on the 2nd and 3rd attempts!?!

I have had tha happen too, and I think it is because I have very low blood pressure. I cannot give blood without almost passing out, and get very woozy. But seeing blood even my own isn't a problem otherwise.

I once saw someone snag the glasses right off the top of a man's visor while casting it. Right into the pond with those things, the guy was more impressed than mad.
