The first real memory that sticks out in my mind was the mid fifties GA Tech game (one of many dubbed the game of the century). What makes it stand out was it being the first time UT lined up in the "T" under center. (was at the close of the first half at our own goal line) What makes it stand out was a news item in the papers the next day that stated a Tech player look up from the line of scrimmage and ask "what is this?!?" a UT lineman (center I think) answered "you're the engineers, you figure it out". However, my first memories go back much further. I could not wait for the mail to bring the "game letters" (my dad's alumni letters) that showed the plays of the saturday game from the weekend before. (they were a pictorial display of a field with all the plays shown). With this and a radio broadcast from Jackson Tn still in my mind, I saw and was at many games. Don't remember the first game I was at Neyland, it was in the early 70's. Had seen UT in person in Memphis, Birmingham and Nashville from time to time before that.
