Vol Nation....myself and 5 of my friends are coming down to neyland stadium from southern illinois for our first neyland/knoxville experience. We have tix for the game. We are all 23-27 years old and looking for the best time knoxville has. Where should we stay? Where do we tailgate? How early should we get out to the lot on sat morn? Where are the best bars in knoxville? Thanks for the help. We are looking forward to taking in the rocky top experience.

Tailgating is pretty spread out. Your best bet would be to go down to the river and see the Vol Navy. There are bars (Old College Inn, Buffalo Wild Wings, Half Barrel) on Cumberland, otherwise known as the strip. This is where a majority of the action goes on. Calhoun's on the river isn't bad and is a cool scene. Try to make it to the Vol Walk and Salute to the Hill. It's a pretty cool experience. For information on that, you can go to University of Tennessee Athletics Official Athletic Site a week before the game and they'll give you times.

You may still be able to get a room at one of the nice hotels downtown -- Hilton, Marriot, etc. Probably not sold out for your game yet. That puts you w/n walking/cabbing distance of the good stuff -- Old City or The Strip. On gameday, there is plenty to do. It is spread out all -- there will be a big crowd at Calhoun's on the River and with good weather, a few beers on the deck is a good warmup. Tailgates available all over and Big Orange folks typically share their beer and food.

I would advise parking at Tyson Park before the game. Go on west on Cumberland, take a right at Concord. It'll be on your right. I think it's about $15 to park and a five minute walk to the stadium, but if you're looking to leave after the game it's the quickest.
