I have a very close friend who I have known for over 35 years. He is an athletic administrator and coach at a school in MS where Hal Mumme has been the last 4 years.

Last Thursday, Currie offered Leach the job at $3.2 million. It was rejected. Last night they met in LA...and the offer was upped to $6.2 million. It was accepted and agreed upon. Even had a signature from the Chancellor. Contract was to be signed this AM.

Leach was bringing Mumme as OC and a Stoops as DC. It was going to be a GREAT staff.

At some point, the UT administration pulled the offer and brought Currie home for what happened this morning. It appears Fulmer was the spearhead to cancel this deal.

My friend has zero reason to lie. I trust him as he has never reached out to share info like this before. Working 4 years with Mumme gives him a lot of credibility since Mumme and Leach have a LONG history together.

I would be extremely disappointed if Tennessee killed this Leach deal just to get rid of Currie.

Currie's days were number, but now who are getting for a head coach? Probably not anything remotely close to Mike Leach.

Here is the thing and a rumor floating around regarding a legal issue. If Schiano didn't get signed because Bev didn't sign off on MOU, there is certain legal folks asking if Currie knowingly entered into a MOU without authorized sign off from President or Chancellor.

I think Leach was a last ditch effort to try to save his job. I am glad Currie got canned.

Technically he said "a" Stoops - which one wasn't specified.

Now - what makes more sense, Fulmer sabotaged a universally favored hire or Leach said no and Currie was fired for another failure?

I doubt this and here's why. We are already going to be in a lawsuit with Schiano over this very thing. There's no way they take a chance on repeating. Currie was fired, not solely, for apparently going to negotiate without approval. I don't see her having signed anything. The rest may have some legs to it, may, but I'm inclined to believe we will hear a lot of out of left field stories since we are an easy troll target at the moment. JMO.

Where is copy of the MOU? I thought it was due out by now (even if not signed by Daven).

I donĀ’t think he meant Bob. There are a bunch of stoops.

I'm aware

I know Currie is inept, but I have a hard time believing his initial offer was only 3.2, then he doubled it.

Look, I like Fulmer but I'm not sure his idea of a good hire is going to be a universally favored hire by the fans. He's always come off as a little stubborn to me and does things his way.
Time will tell.

It's probably best that we don't believe every rumor that comes by. There's going to continue to be many. As for the OP, cold be true and I'd not be thrilled. But, tired of the three ring circus including fans, AD, and Upper level admin. I'll not buy any rumors until it's confirmed directly from Currie's mouth. Oh wait...

this deal would have been absolutely great for UT. If true, and if it gets botched by Fulmer or anyone else it will make me sick to my stomach.

Our Athletic Director told us not to believe anything until an announcement is made. I'd better stick with him.
