GBO! Congrats and look forward to hearing some stories about being on the team. Maybe try the satellite radio thing. Not real sure, cause I live in southern middle Tennessee and I'm lucky to pick the game up on radio if it's not on tv. Good luck to you and thanks for your service to our country.:salute:

Hey guys! This is my first thread on here. I just graduated this year from good ole UT. I was a walk-on defensive back during the last of the fulmer years (05-08) and still have a few friends still on the team. Im excited to see them have a chance to succeed and maybe extend their careers into the pros. Unfortunately, I wont be able to watch to many of the games next year. I just accepted a job as an Afloat Fitness Director for the Navy, and as part of the job, I deploy with them out to sea for 6-8 months out of the year....Needless to say Its kinda tough to catch the majority of UT games in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Any tips on how I can pull this off, or will I need to check in here and other sites and just track the game online? Anyways, looking foward to being a part of the Volnation boards and chatting with other Vols from around the world!! GBO All Day Long

Welcome...pull up a box...."set awhahl"....glad you're here.

If you have internet access while aboard ship check in here before a game and see where you might pick it up by checking in on the game thread. At least radio broadcast. Good luck and stay Arnge. :hi:

Here is a tip for you. When you meet an obnoxious FL or AL on the ship (and you will) ask them to meet you on the fantail for a discussion on sec football. Once on the fantail shout " Look is that Moby Dick?" as they run to the rail to look firmly place both hands in the center of their back and give them a helpful nudge. Protocol requires you to yell "man overboard" take this moment to unbutton your shirt to reveal your orange. After this it would be improper to look dissheveled please take the time to straighten up and get your gigline squared away. Immediately proceed to the bow of the ship (walk don't run) to report the man overboard. Hope this helps. Your shipmates will thank you .

Howdy! I have 16 years in the Navy so far and I can tell you...if the games are nationally televised the chances of you seeing it out to sea are very good. AFRTS satellite reception is pretty decent. The local games...you will not see. I got used to logging onto ESPN and just refreshing when I could. They got mad, but approved it, when I took a days leave while out to sea just so I could watch a Vols game uninterrupted by drills or work.

And I am in Jacksonville, FL....God help me I am in Gators Hell.

Forgive me but I'm rolling at the fact the Navy has an Atfloat Fitness Director and the fact that this is a hired out position! Good for you though! Welcome aboard!

Okay, I'm a Vol Army ROTC Alum recently retired so I know your pain! I was in Ranger School in '91 when we came back to beat the Irish and have watched our Vols in many overseas locations to include The Philippines, Japan, Afghanistan and Louisiana! Here is what I can tell you. Almost every ship in the Navy has sat TV which you'll be able to watch. To influence what games are shown, recommend you show up with a bunch of Big Orange gifts, hats work well, (Sailors love hats). Of course you have to give one to the Skipper, but make sure you give most of them to the Chiefs (especially the Senior Chief)--they run the boat and can your life enjoyable or miserable.
The other thing to do is get a Sling Box and put it on a relative's TV back home. It will push cable shows to your computer where ever you are and all you have to do is record them and watch on your downtime. Hope this helps, thanks for serving the country in this way, stay safe.

I just read up on the position and it states part of your job describtion is to set up rec activities. This should give you the upper hand when deciding what games to watch. Which boat did you get assigned? I would assume its a carrier? The Supply Chief would be a great alli!
