First "offensive" drive of the game/season

Unless their D lines up with 8 in the box, I can think of no logical reason to do anything other than go with our strength, prove our OL, and run the ball from the start.

With social distancing here's not gonna be any loud hostile crowd to "silence" with a surprise long pass, and the receiving corps will be our least experienced position group, and thus most likely to make a mental error that could produce a turnover.

I think Vol fans are ready to embrace a little "4 yards and a cloud of rubber particles" football. Dull, predictable security is undervalued, even when it produces wins.

Here's how I hope the first series goes:
Run right, right right, run middle, first down
Run right, run middle, run left, first down
Run left, run left, run middle, first down
Run right, run right, run middle, field goal

Second series we start throwing it across the middle because they expecting the run and we take it to the house easy and often after that...

If I’m not mistaken, our best plays/throws with JG are in the middle. Should do it more often if they’re going to put their faith in him.

I THINK we'll see an attempt to establish the run game/ball control for the first couple of series and let our young speed guys get use to the flow a little. Mismatches can be created with the speed we have at a few positions now so CJP and CJC will want to develop that as quickly as possible. As a long time defensive coordinator in the SEC once told me "football boils down to two things : proper spacing and creating mismatches". I've come to understand you can do both better with high quality athletes. When a coach says we need to put players in a position to be successful that's generally what they are referring to. Of course CJP could go in a different way and "air it out" on the first series to try and create confidence for JG.:oops:

Maybe I've just missed him in the videos, but I haven't seen Bryce Thompson in the practice videos this week. Even when they were filming DB reps. I really hope he's playing Saturday.
He was literally in the portion of them running out in the field and in the last portion catching the ball at the end of the video of the DB prep a few days ago.....

Be thankful. If things are "quiet" around BT then he isn't injured and he isn't in trouble. Talent isn't in question.
