We are taking my son and nephew up to Neyland for their first trip to Neyland. Typically we enjoy tailgating and walking the strip for pre-game, but we've been going for many years now. What should I make sure I plan for these two on their first trip to Neyland? Where is the best place to watch the Vol Walk and/or the band coming into the stadium? Are there other areas which young teenage boys would love to see that Adults who have been to Neyland a bunch may not think about?

I'm taking my 6 yr old to the game as well. It's been awhile since I've been there to see the Vol Walk & band before the game. What time do they usually come down?

I'm taking a 45 yr old guy for his first trip to Neyland. Actually, he went to MTSU and was in their band so when this game came up I told him we're going so he could see what real college football was all about.

A few weeks ago he couldnt understand the concept that we didnt know what time kickoff was and wouldnt know it until about 12 days before. Told him this was a tv deal and that's what big time programs do. Still he was amazed we didnt have a time down pat. He's also didnt grasp the point that going to a football game in Knoxville is an all day event with a game thrown in the middle. His mindset is all mid major/OVC football, not BCS ball. Cant wait to get him down to Volunteer Blvd for him to see the sea of orange when the band comes down and what its like to play in front of fans that truely appreciate what you do.

The Vol Walk is 2 hrs and 15 min before kickoff. Saturday it's at 4:45. A good place to watch it is right in front of the stadium behind the orange barricades. Get there early enough so they can be in front.

My wife and I always stand across the street from the pep band that plays for the Vol Walk. That way we can watch the team walk down and then scoot across the rich folks' parking lot to watch the band march to the stadium a few minutes later.

As far as the Vol walk is concerned, just make sure you're on Peyton Manning Pass 2 1/2 hours before the gametime. Anywhere on the pass should be just fine though you might want to start lining up at least 30 mins early.

First time that I saw Tennessee playing in person, I was about 13 also. We lived in Mississippi at the time and UT was playing Ole Miss (about 1972). A friend of Dad's that was on the Miss governors staff gave us tickets to the box. We got to get to the box by walking at ground level on the sidelines. I remember brushing right past the UT cheerleaders and I was in heaven!

Dad rode the Tennessee Walking horse in 1979 on the sidelines when we played Georgia Tech. I didn't get to go as I was in Germany in the Air Force.

I went to Vanderbilt stadium in the early 90's and saw us beat Vandy.

As far as Neyland, I went in 1999 against Wyoming I think. Unfortunately, over the years I've developed panic attacks when I'm in very close proximity of crowds and I'm not able to move around. Our seats were in nosebleed section just below the JumboTron and I was smack in the middle between aisles. By the time the band did the "T", I was a nervous wreck and had to leave. Finished watching the game in the motel room. If I would have been on the end of the aisle sitting, I'd have been okay. Growing older sucks sometime.:scare:

I'm thinking the Wyoming game was at Titans stadium that year....sucks about the attacks. Maybe you should try and get in a skybox sometime...

Sorry I didn't mean to press the like button...dang iPad! But I did like the first part of your story, but sorry to hear about ur panic attacks. I'm a little like u as I need aisle seats to sit at or I start to feel like things are closing in on me. If I can't sit in the aisle it helps if I know the people sitting on both sides of me. Otherwise I'm out...
