I was at the hospital at my grandfathers side the other night and thought back to the first game he ever took me to. Just wondering what memories you might have had that were special to you.

I grew up in Kingsport and remember when I was a little boy laying beside the radio and listening to the Vols with Johnny Majors as the main man! The Orange was oozing out of that radio. I'm still hooked after 50 years.

85 sugar bowl. I was 7. My parents and I were at a party at some of their friends house. I'd never seen so many adults giddy, dancing, high fiving, and acting like kids in my life. I knew it was for me.

I was six and watched the Gator Bowl vs the Gators back in '69. My big brother was already a huge Tennessee fan and he was so ticked off! It must have rubbed off. I still love the Vols and hate the Gators.

Lincoln missing the field goal (you guys know what game that is ) and my dad and my brothers and I are all hugging each other and I almost break my foot. I love it and if I had broken my foot it would have been worth it!!!

I probably had some others, but I would have to say my most vivid is from the '97 Nebraska game when Leonard Little was russhing the QB and literally completely jumped over the back that came oout to block him. It was the most amazing physical feat I had seen.

My first live game in Neyland, I think I was 12, was against Spurrier and Duke. The Vols had Reggie Cobb, and Jeff Francis. Their QB Dillwig killed us as UT LOST to DUKE!!! They did win the ACC that year but still EFFIN DUKE:banghead2:

Some folks are really showing their age here.

Oh lord well I am fixing to show mine LOL..My first memory was the UT/Vandy game in 1974 at Neyland..My brother took me..We sat on those old wooden benches out in the north endzone which are no longer there...He bought me a big UT flag to wave during the game...UT won...Probably the most thrilling game and one that has probably caused me some sort of heart damage over the years was the UT/Alabama game of 1982...I have NEVER been to a more intense or exciting game in my whole life...4 people had heart attacks at that game...I still to this very day get cold chills up my back watching Bama drive down the field to tie the game or win it with a 2 point conversion and Mike Terry intercepting that ball in the endzone and ending that 11 year losing streak...It was beyond insane...I had one of those handheld radios with the one ear piece, Remember those LOL..And I was trying to listen to john ward but it was too loud all I could hear was him counting down the clock...At that time you really felt what UT tradition was all about.

Growing up in GA, I was a UGA fan until middle school. I didn't know any better and had never been to a college/pro stadium. I didn't have a father growing up and my mother worked 3 jobs to support us...

My middle school BB coach took me to the UT vs. GT game in the mid 80's. F Reveis (??) hit a 50 yd field goal as time expired for a 6-6 tie!

That experience changed my life and I have been ORANGE ever since!!

Even though I live 4 hours from kville, I still have 4 tickets in Section T and we travel to ALL THE BIG ROAD GAMES!!

I have a 10 year old son and I always save a seat for him to bring a friend to UT games. We have made so many memories together and I enjoy the look on his friends faces when they first step into Neyland!!! Most of them leave the game as converted UT fans!!! I guess you could say I am a good recruiter....:)

Also a great memory but not the first. I was driving down I-40 going back home to Oak Ridge in 1995. I don't even remember where I was driving from, but I listened to the game where we beat Bama for the first time in years. I was beeping my horn and flashing my lights I was so excited. I remember WIVK playing all those songs after it. Covers of other classic rock songs called "we beat bama".

Incidentally, does anyone remember when "Shotgun Stevens" got fired from WOKI 100.3 I think was the callsign for playing Orange blood like 41 times in a row?

My first memory of the Vols is watching tv when Karl Kremser missed the winning field goal against the Sooners and lost 26-24 in the Orange Bowl in 1967. My first game was UCLA in Knoxville in 1970 which the Vols won 28-17. Here is a site I found some of you might not have seen with headlines of some past memorable games of UT.

My real first memories was of the '85 Sugar Bowl where we throttled the supposed best team in the country.
Also I can remember the days of the Cobb-Webb 1-2 punch we use to unleash on opponents.Man that seems so long ago.But those were some good ole days.

The 85 Sugar Bowl! Yes! The Vols beat the Canes 35-7!They put out a tape with songs on it like the Bears Did when they won the SuperBowl. Anyone remember some of the Songs! Shake the SugarBowl, Orange Blooded, The Vols went down to New Orleans! Tim Mcgee, Daryl Dickey, Tony Robinson, Carlos Reviez Dale "The Hit Man" Jones, Jeff Powell, Chris White, They were some of the baddest players to take the field! Miami Fans were outnumbered by 7-1 in the Superdome. The Vols beat Auburn (Bo Jackson) 38-20 that year.
When the Vols had the Cobb-Webb attack 89' They put out them football cards and I remember trading a Troy Aikmen Rookie card for them two cards, LOL! For the record, Aikmen won 1 game his rookie season. (How was I to know what it would be worth):)

I am going to top all so far as to showing age, but I don't worry about that at this point in life. My first memory was the first game I attended with my mom & dad. It was Ole Miss in 1958, and we won 18-16. The main memory from the game was a long pass completion in the winning drive of around 40 yds. The Tennessee receiver caught the ball right in front of us. We were on about the tenth row. I had never heard such a noise as the crowd made. It created an excitement for UT football that has not diminished in those 50 yrs since.
