WASHINGTON A professor with close ties to the Russian government told an adviser to Donald J. Trumps presidential campaign in April 2016 that Moscow had dirt on Hillary Clinton in the form of thousands of emails, according to court documents unsealed Monday.
The adviser, George Papadopoulos, has pleaded guilty to lying to the F.B.I. about that conversation. The plea represents the most explicit evidence connecting the Trump campaign to the Russian governments meddling in last years election.
They have dirt on her, the professor told him, according to the documents. They have thousands of emails.
Mr. Papadopoulos was quietly arrested in July and has since been cooperating with the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, records show. Mr. Papadopouloss conversation in April raises more questions about a meeting in June at Trump Tower, where Mr. Trumps eldest son and senior advisers met with Russians who were similarly promising damaging information on Mrs. Clinton.
Trump Campaign Adviser Met With Russian to Discuss Dirt on Clinton - The New York Times
Papadapolous attempted to undermine the Clinton campaign by obtaining info from the Russian official. Then when confronted by the FBI, he lied about it.
Now he's singing to the FBI. Trump sheep can spin it however they want. This is just the beginning.
Agreed. The fact that George P. lied to the FBI is far more damning on its face than the Manafort/Gates indictments. He obviously would only lie if the truth revealed impropriety. That he accepted a plea bargain should have Trump very, very nervous. Donald Jr. is likely next on Muellers hit list.
