You have an EXTREMELY poor memory. The 8 year decline under Fulmer at the end of his career interrupted only by Cut's brief return is EXACTLY what started this whole mess.

Recruiting fell off. Fulmer didn't discipline or replace poor performing coaches. Fulmer didn't keep up with scheme changes. On field discipline went south. Off the field discipline became a constant embarrassment.

The team still hasn't recovered on the field but the vast majority of the off field problems are MUCH better.... and now... that REALLY matters. The lack of academic discipline Fulmer left would cost the Vols multiple scholarships now.

So Fulmer was fired and could not get a job ANY WHERE. Mark Reicht was fired and had a job a month later and now has his team undefeated. I can't believe people are still on here saying they should have kept Fulmer. It's unreal.

NOTHING that has happened since makes his termination the wrong thing to do. The decisions made since fail on their own. But it was always going to be risky. IF... IF... UT has the courage to fire coaches like Jones until they find the right one then it will prove to be the right course all along. But they can't give them 4 years much less 5 or more. If they can't coach, and Jones has amply proven he can't, then you have to get rid of them.

The further the Fulmer years get away from us, the more selective the memories get.

From 2009-2017 do you think the landscape of UT Football would have looked better or worse had we kept Fulmer. That's the point of this exercise. I know what my answer is after watching another dumpster fire season. Especially with nothing but a buyout to pay and a fortune to sink into yet another coach.

I’ve paid attention. The administration is just as piss poor now as it was then. Again, the mistake wasn’t firing Fulmer, it was how he was replaced. Just look at the Patterson statement made just the other day. How they didn't think he could handle the stage. Yet, they hired Kiffin....

Supposedly Hamilton didn’t hire Patterson because he might’ve reminded people of Fulmer. That’s the people we’ve dealt with over the last 10 years. We are a victim of their decisions. Phil was a victim of his own success. He became complacent and it really showed in recruiting and the win column. I wish he would’ve walked away after the 07 season.

You can argue Fulmer should have been given another year to try and fix things.

But the people acting like he would have returned us to the 90s are spouting pure fantasy. Fulmer would have lasted maybe 2 more seasons at best.
