Blaming fans for decisions made by athletic directors. Typical statement exposing those who consistently support UTAD/HoH leadership regardless of their failures over the last several years.

Were the fans similarly-responsible for acting as a "redneck mob" when Majors was fired? Or did the difference there rest in the fact we had an Athletic Director in place at the time who was a football man and understood the need to hire quality personnel?

Fulmer's firing was the result of a general stagnation and later decline in the program under his watch.

The fact this program has went into further decline after his departure is not the fault of the fans. It is the fault of an athletic department leadership you and those like you continue to worship.

It was a bad decision then. It’s an even worse decision now that you can’t even defend with the luxury of knowing how everything played out.

Shame on you for having no loyalty to one of our top 3 greatest coaches.

Why don’t you go back and watch a few of those games from 08. Refresh your memory of the juggernaut that was Fulmer’s final year.

The redneck mob was clearly responsible for the negativity that resulted in Cuonzo’s departure.

Ignoring the influence of VolNation and it’s ability to perpetuate negativity that does in fact influence the administration in actual decision making is on you.

Shame on me for having loyalty to winning football. I just defended the reason he was fired. You know my defense was accurate, so this is the weak ish you come back with.

He wasn’t the same coach in 2008 that he was in 1998. If he were, he would’ve landed another job.

No one on this or any other message board has an impact on what goes on inside UTAD and over at Pilot Corporate HQ. Too bad. There are many on this forum who could do a better job than those who have been, and are presently, running things with Tennessee athletics.

Cuonzo was responsible for Cuonzo's departure. He did the same thing at Cal when the going got rough. He will do the same at Mizzou when things get hot there.

I realize facts are difficult things. But Coach Martin ran on his own accord.

Firing Fulmer was the correct thing to do. Keeping Hamilton and Hart as long as they did was the problem. Neither one were good as AD.

This has been discussed at length, and probably will be until UT is relevant again, but I will take the bait. I would agree with the OP that the last 10 years probably wouldn't have been as bad if Fulmer would have been retained. Would he have righted the ship and won more championships? We will never know. What we do know is that Fulmer was at his best when David Cutcliffe was his OC. Fulmer was 82-19 as head coach with Cutcliffe on staff. He was 70-33 without Coach Cut. We all knew Coach Cut wasn't coming back, and a lot of us suspected Fulmer's best years were behind him. The problem wasn't necessarily in firing Fulmer. The problem has been very poor leadership and terrible decisions made by the administration since the firing. I won't even get into that. We all know the parties involved and the chain of events. You could even argue that this, and not the fans who wanted a new coach, was what led to Fulmer's demise. The debate will continue, but I think we can all agree that bad management by the university is what has caused our current state of affairs.

Apparently no other big 5 school thought enough of him to hire him to coach their team. He publicly stated on several occasions that he still had "fire in his belly" and wanted to continue to coach. As it seems, he was just as delusional about himself as some of our fans are about him.

Great guy, good coach and won a ton of games here. That being said, he didn't have to build it up as a HC and when there was some drop-off, the lack of experience in doing a rebuild as a HC put us into a slide to mediocrity. Probably the reason he didn't get any major jobs when there openings the next couple of years

Well now.....don’t forget....he was considered for the UCONN job but decided against it. LOL
