Firing Fulmer took us from blue blood to absolute joke....

Firing Fulmer was not the issue.

Who Tennessee has chosen to be head coach since that time is an issue.

We were one year removed from an sec championship. Say what you want about how we got there, but we probably won’t ever see an sec championship again.

Firing Fulmer was the worst mistake any program has ever made. Ever. In the history of college football. Period.

We had lost any kind of elite status in the years and years before Phil was canned. We gave him enough rope to hang the program. Other schools in the SEC have prospered by moving when it was clear their head man wasn't getting it done. We should have canned him in 2002, but for sure no later than 2005.

2 losing seasons in 4 years, it was time to let him go. Our problems have been with hirings not firings. Every coach we have fired has deserved to be fired.

Embarrassing as it is to say, the Gator nailed it.

Fulmer had morphed from the 90s driven Fulmer to Phlegmatic Phil, the grimacing clappy guy waddling on the sidelines who spoke of his team as a separate entity in pressers (used they and them a lot) threw players under the bus, and eventually even gripped about the fans who actually wanted to win. It was PAST time. By 2006, he was sucking in cash and going through the motions.

The hires since have been abysmal.

Fulmer hired the best that was available at the time, especially after the coaching search debacle. We should just appreciate him for winning a national championship, because we will never see another one in our lifetime. Fulmer is the last sign of real Tennessee football

Thank you, at least you remember where Fuller had the program before he was fired. He constantly underachieved with top ranked classes.

Thats a hard position on the 02 thing
01 definitely should have ended better.
What should have happened was someone tell him he needs to change to adapt

He didn't get his kiffin like Saban did to jerk him into reality of the current game
Tried to ride that one year into beating generals win record at the expense of the footballs program future.
It's ironic bc it seems thats part of how he got the job from majors, saying the game had passed Johnny up.

Oh well i guess people are always gonna misremember and make Fulmer into a paterno/bowden type

We need to fire him again right now.

Fulmer hired Pruitt who is leading us to another losing season.

Fulmer hired Clawson who lead the offense to a losing season in 2008.

Fulmer hired Randy Sanders who lead the offense to a losing season 2005.

Notice a pattern?

Playing for an SEC Championship; we didn't win it. And yes we did win the East in 2007 but let's not forget in said year we were embarrassed by UF and Alabama (the 6-6 one people like to use for comparison all the time). I am one that thinks Fulmer deserved at least one more year, but this romantic, revisionist history narrative that had we not fired Fulmer we would winning the East and still nationally relevant is a bit silly. Fulmer was still on the decline and was probably headed for the same fate regardless if he was given more time or not.

Which brings up a good point, why was Cut never given a legit shot at this job?

David WAS offered the Job; BUT with "Conditions" that He would retain certain Staff members. I guess that was a half hearted offer! Once again STUPID Tenn.
