The CBS radio announcer hit it on the head today. UT looked like the 80s and 90s. Florida looked new and fresh.
UT had the typical Fulmer traits in a team:
No special teams
low intensity
anemic offense
defense that was relatively better.
My thought is that Fulmer was never a top coach, but he just recruited better in the 90s. When faced against a team that was competitive in talent (Florida), he didn't play well (his record against Florida in the 90s is terrible). With the rest of the SEC evening out coaching wise, Fulmer's flaws are being exposed (and will continue to be as long as he's coach).
Unfortunately, somebody in the Athletic department is protecting him. I'm not sure who, but I wonder how long it will be before he is shown the door.
In the SEC, most schools don't wait a long time to get rid of a coach if they're not winning. At Auburn, they even fired Tuberville when he did well (and rehired him back). I just wonder why it's taking so long at UT.
This year, I have been predicting blowouts to Florida, Georgia and Alabama. Losses to Auburn and somebody else (at least 1). Who knows, maybe Vandy will go to a bowl game while we stay at home.
The only wild card is Phil himself, who always manages to do enough to keep his job but not enough to get back to the top of the SEC East consistently. This is the real danger to the program, since it will hurt our recruiting and the future of the program.
