Fire dooley today!

You get the feeling that the few here on VN who still support Dooley do so because they have never been wrong. Never in their life have they been wrong on the least thing, so of course they cannot possibly be wrong about Dooley. They embraced him as the saviour of UT football 2 1/2 yrs ago; now Dooley is more important to them than Tennessee football. They would gladly see another year, or another 5 years of mediocrity and irrelevance under Dooley, for the simple reason that the alternative, to admit they were dead wrong about Dooley, that he is an inept, unlikable coach who has been in over his head from day one, is unthinkable. Dooley supporters cannot be wrong.

Come on folks, the team played it close today so let's give Dooley a little time to get the program in order. No one can argue we are making progress, so let's quit the crying and moaning and get behind our coach. Give coach Dooley more time....Give Dooley a chance
Give Dooley until Monday Oct 29th for pete's sake
then announce a real coach that can recruit as well as coach before UT reaches the abyss....were very close

I was absolutely furious about hiring him. He has suprised me though. I honestly thought we would be a 2 win per season team under him. He has started to build something here. There is a chance for this team to be bowl elligible at the end of this season. Granted it won't be a New Years day bowl, but he's moving the program forward. As I stated before, this rebuilding was slated as a 4-5 year process when it started. I think a coach needs 4 years to fully get his program implemented. If we're not competing for the SEC East next year, then I'll jump on the can Dooley band wagon, but until then, I'll support Dooley.

Thanks for the stats. Tennessee gives up quite a bit more yards and points than Bama and UGA in their first year of the 3-4.

Not only that, TN is on pace to have its worst D year in its entire history.

Let that sink in for just a minute, and then someone convince me that it is just a growing pain that will pass.

We lost by 3 to the number 11 team in the country on their home field and got a number of horrible calls.

Give our team some credit. If Bray comes back next year and we recruit a couple of great dbs, this team will be great next year.

Agreed. I think Missouri is a toss up at this point.

yup..Vandy could be tricky too. Troy and Uk seem like locks but we will have to win each game with offense
We dont just have a bad D , we have NO D . It would not suprise me for either of these teams to turn things into a shootout . ..like Akron D . A bad night for the offense could be a disaster.

I still remember the day it was being reported by virtually everyone that Brian Kelly was going to be hired to replace Fulmer. A week later Hamilton hired Kiffin. Like him or not Kelly is looking like he would have been a pretty good choice. Hamilton later said he just didn't think Kelly could recruit here. He may not have been able to recruit Alabama type classes but I doubt we would be battling Vanderbilt and Kentucky for recruits.

Troy will not be easy by any means. They are averaging over 300 yards passing a game and had almost 600 yards offense against Mississippi State in a 30-24 loss. All their losses have been by less then a touchdown and up until today had not had a bad loss. Not sure what happened today maybe someone got injured but they shouldn't have lost to Florida Atlantic. Any team that can throw for over 300 yards a game has a decent chance to beat us.

Coach Kelly @ Notre Dame Turned it around on 3rd year. Sick of excuses. Own it.:whistling::banghead2:

The last four years ND has been 6-6, 8-5, 8-5, to 8-0 so far this year. That's what real improvement looks like not a string of "moral victories" like our so called improvement.

They've also scored quite a few more points. Getting TOP back on our side will help a little, but overall, the 3-4 is a complicated defense that takes time to get fully implemented. It will take the current players learning the system, as well as recruiting the athletes more suited for it. Our LBs, while great athletes were recruited under the old 4-3. They aren't traditional speedy 3-4 LBs, but they are the best we have at the positions. It takes time folks.

My impressions of Dooley's tenure at UT: I think the talent level of the recruiting classes are improving even if slightly. Your offense is very dynamic and effective, even if the run offense is inconsistent, but even it has improved.

The only bad area I see these days is the defense.....I do not know if Dooley's area of expertise his career has been as a defensive coach or offensive. Keep improving the talent and depth on D, and UT will be back to winning 8+ games or more a season. From there, a storied program such as yours would take leaps forward rather than small steps, IMO....

The conference record is bad I know, but then you must consider the level of SEC competition y'all have played this season...

my feelings is, Dooley has got y'all on the cusp more than y'all give him credit for...

Dooley is doing his job ok. Look at the points we put up. He coaches the offense and special teams up. His biggest mistake was hiring Sunseri. Just because you coached linebackers at Alabama does not mean you called defensive plays. Our defense is our weak link, not the offense. If anyone should be on the hotseat first its Sunseri, then Dooley.

Man, I can't wait until I get 100 posts so I can start a "Dooley Sucks" thread, too. We need some more of those here on VN, so we don't forget.

You are probably right . We could find ourselves in a shootout with them. ...the first D to step up wins it. Sad days

He will only coach college if Notre Dame job ever comes available in his lifetime or he will coach again in the NFL. He will not coach at Texas, Arkansas or Tennessee.

He said himself he would only consider Tennessee or Notre Dame on the collegiate level. ND because his dad played there. But we all know ND isn't looking or needing a coach. Tennessee is where his heart is. If he comes to the college ranks, it will be Tennessee.

So let it be written...so let it be done.

Dooley knew that this year would be his measuring stick. If he chose to go and get a first time DC to install a brand new defense that we didn't have the personnel to execute with...shame on him. I like the guy, but good guys get fired everyday when they can't perform up to expectations. Nothing personal. This should be a business decision.

And they also finish last. ^

I have supported Dooley till now.... but yesterday our Vols were confused and uncertain of themselves. It was very apparant during several defensive formations and especially pass coverage. Our Vols play play hard after the ball is snapped, but in between is where the lack of coaching really shows. Yes, its time for a change. Let's hope they can win out and make it a respectable season. Go Vols!!!
