Fire AD Hamilton as well

Hamilton manned up and got rid of Fulmer. That decision is backed up with every game. While Fulmer should have been gone after 2005, I am willing to give Hamilton the benefit of the doubt, as many could have said it was an aberration at that time. I think he realizes this hire is important for the history of this University, and for him personally.

You can't be soft on the AD and hard on the coach.

The AD signed Fulmer's contract extension. If anyone should give money back to UT, why not Hamilton?

what kind of idiot gives that coach a raise and agrees with the clawson hire

the entire staff along with the AD need to hit the road;this is a sad day... allowing it to disintegrate to this point is unacceptable

Actually, Hamilton is looking smarter and smarter by firing Fulmer.

The raise was in Fulmer's contract - Any time he won 8 games a year was added to the contract. That was the university's decision

Clawson was a hire by Phil... The coach choose his staff. If Fulmer wanted Clawson, then Hamilton wasn't going to disagree. Fulmer controlled UT football, and this is what happens.

Mike Hamilton is the one that bought in Bruce Pearl, many fans love Pearl to death! He was a very good hire.

It was Fulmer who allowed it to get to this point, not Hamilton. If Hamilton gets this coaching change right, then he should get an award for the 2 hires he will have made!

Bad post. The Clawson hire looked good at the beginning of the year. Heck, the recruiting is still good. Clawson had all the credentials you'd want in picking a young, up-and-coming OC.

Exactly. Mike Hamilton is the grim reaper our of program. I don't agree with the extension either, but for Pete sake the man is getting it done in firing long overdue coaches while making what appear to be two very good hires. I'm sure he understands the severity of his situation, and he will be gone if he fumbles this hire. But, to assume that he could just come in and pull the trigger on Fulmer in such a short time frame (2002? 2003?) is absurd. He got it done. Period. Unless we just completely flop under the next coach Hamilton is secure and where he needs to be.

The AD represented the university in its contract with Fulmer. It's a much on his record as this losing season is on Phil's. But, I will most certainly forgive that and sing his praises if he hires Jon Gruden. That's about the same as saying Fulmer had to win an SEC championship. We should not settle for mediocrity in our AD's either. Same high standards should apply.

Finally, there's no way hiring a coach for the UT football program is anything like finding a 'diamond in the rough' as he did for a struggling basketball program. We don't need to look under every rock for football coach. The new football coach should be well-known and proven.

I would say that this loss should reaffirm Hamilton's decison regarding firing Fulmer.

Hamilton should have definitely waited until after the Wyoming game to fire Fulmer. Then everyone would have been applauding him.

I wondered about that, but I'm guessing he thought there was nothing he could do that would affect even this team's ability to beat Wyoming, and he didn't want to fire Fulmer after a what should have been a sure win.
