Finish with DTs. Who's Available?

Although the portal closed, I'm guessing tons of players are still uncommitted. Can the Vols round out the class with 2 or 3 big uglies at DT?

DT is going to be vital to Tennessee's overall success or not on defense in general.
Probably need another d end too right? And maybe a depth running back behind Duane morris

A very valid thread. In my last report I mentioned that Defensive Tackle was in my opinion our biggest need and whilst I am overall very happy with the Portal "business" we have only seen Xavier Gilliam (a decent start) arrive so lets hope one or two 340llb Nose Tackles can be found in the rough.
Could use a mammoth to play Nose and maybe two 300+lb 4 down linemen tackles

Somebody posted the two deep in RF. Not good. There are three underclassmen, and Gilliam. Then two walkons.

That is going to get you beat. A lot.

Edit: credit to @JCVol00

SDE: Weathersby/Dye

DT: Robinson/campbell/gilliam

DT: Hobbs/utley/house

WDE: Coleman/norman/Gass

Upon further inspection. We could be fine with just one more older body

Dude this is according to you. And you just assume this staff can’t develop these guys. Saying this will get you beat a lot is ridiculous.

I am sure some are gonna bring up names. But let’s be honest, does anyone on here really know how to evaluate DT talent like Garner and Knowles? No they don’t.

I have no idea who’s left to get. All I know is if Garner wants a guy, that’s good enough for me.
Please tell me you aren't knew to watching football. Winning the line of scrimmage is key in EVERY single football team's success over a season of play. Tennessee's current defensive tackle ability and depth will not get it done. Did you watch the 2025 season at all?

Each and every national champion every year has been dominate in the trenches. It's the foundation of the sport, literally.

Gilliam not be 2nd string. He’s a starter.
Robinson will surprise people though.

Wonder if they can find some tougher guys. Ones that don't get helped off the field each game for non-injuries. The Vols are incredibly soft compared to their opponents and it really showed in the Vandie game unfortunately

According to 24/7, of the top 150 or so DL in the portal, not including EDGE, only two are available. Sekou Kromah from Temple and Terrance Hibbler from Mississippi State. On down the list is Dorian Royal from Georgia State and Sterling Sanders from Boston College. All four are 3-stars. Only Hibbler is listed over 300 pounds at 310.

Ive never been able to find a list of players available for an adult with ADHD and zero tolerance for fluff. I cannot stand all the add on crap of these sites.

I like Hobbs but he seems to struggle health wise. And if he stays healthy it doesn’t seem like we have enough quality depth to weather injuries. I hope we go after a DT from Miami or Indy to anchor that spot.

I also think having bigger and/or more physical DE’s helps our DT’s. So maybe scheme helps us too. We shall see. In all, in the SEC you have to run the ball and stop the run. If you cannot do that you won’t be a playoff candidate

What are you babbling about? Of course I realize the LOA is the most important thing. My point is this. Nobody on this board knows who is good and a best fit for our defense. Nobody. So whomever Garner and Knowles target should be sufficient for all of us. Asking who is left or available is dumb.

you woefully underestimate the intelligence and savvy of VN posters. They have watched some video and talked to their uncle who was a HS stud, and they can gauge talent and need from there. No need for VN to have any more experience, and they certainly do not need to see what goes on at a practice.

Good question.

They’re out there. Older guys with production still in the portal.

Example: Shakai Woods
6’0 280 lbs (short)
50 tackles and 2.5 sacks last year is very productive
