besides the national championship teams (I don’t know what their portal timeline is) we could have players pop up as late as Wednesday.

What are you babbling about? Of course I realize the LOA is the most important thing. My point is this. Nobody on this board knows who is good and a best fit for our defense. Nobody. So whomever Garner and Knowles target should be sufficient for all of us. Asking who is left or available is dumb.
Defensive tackles don't fit a scheme. Their primary roles are to disrupt and collapse the pocket, draw double teams and if they are good in run defense, great, that's a plus. The experience necessary is brute force and strength. So, yes, who is available?

From a schematical standpoint if Tennessee has to rely on their defensive tackles dropping back a little bit in pass coverage then they will be in serious trouble. Other than that it is simply pin your ears back and get after it.

Good question.

They’re out there. Older guys with production still in the portal.

Example: Shakai Woods
6’0 280 lbs (short)
50 tackles and 2.5 sacks last year is very productive
Stumps are good run stoppers bc of leverage.

According to 24/7, of the top 150 or so DL in the portal, not including EDGE, only two are available. Sekou Kromah from Temple and Terrance Hibbler from Mississippi State. On down the list is Dorian Royal from Georgia State and Sterling Sanders from Boston College. All four are 3-stars. Only Hibbler is listed over 300 pounds at 310.
exactly. we aren’t going to add anyone else significant unless they are playing tonight

you woefully underestimate the intelligence and savvy of VN posters. They have watched some video and talked to their uncle who was a HS stud, and they can gauge talent and need from there. No need for VN to have any more experience, and they certainly do not need to see what goes on at a practice.
It’s also ridiculous that everyone thinks everyone on VN is a moron and can’t point out the obvious. There are plenty of people on this board who may not be head coaches, but msg be fairly football savvy.

One can learn a lot about our defensive line by watching last year. I’m no coach making millions but I can tell you defensive line play wasn’t terrific abd we could use a few heavy hitters at the position. Acting like we’re morons bc we’re not Gardner or Knowles is a stretch.

Which freshman DTs are early enrolled?
That’s a good indication of who will probably fight for those 3rd team DT reps.

Campbell and Utley need to bring the heat this off-season

DTs in portal from SEC schools who have not found a home. Seniors have completed eligibility and looking for another year if they can find a way to get it. There are other P4 conference DTs available but most still in the portal are lower level bodies.

Danny Salil - Redshirt senior - Arkansas
Frank Mulipola - Redshirt Senior - Arkansas
Ricky Lolohea - Redshirt Junior - Oklahoma
Bralen Henderson - Redshirt Senior - Missouri
Antonio Coleman - Redshirt Freshman - Auburn
Javeon Campbell - Redshirt Freshman - Kentucky

Any chance we go get one or two post spring? Feel like one or two injuries and we have serious issues.
supposedly theyre moving Jamies Heard there. for depth. The truefreshman will be a factor. Need Finch and Rivers to be ready 10 snaps a game. Regular games not the boat racing ones.

lot of players still in the portal are graduates that are either looking to play their final year somewhere OR they are seeking NCAA approval to play another year, like Taylor is. Many different reasons. This is for all positions not just DT.

Majority are just bodies and might be depth pieces, Very, very few that are left in the portal at this stage would provide much help. We certainly wouldn't want to have to depend on them for much. There are some that would help, but the number is real low...

Dont understand why we have not prioritized getting veteran DT's from the portal. Outside of QB, many coaches consider defensive tackle the most important position on the field.
