You are wrong on so many levels. Marshall can recruit go look at his last class (may not have a ton of 5 stars but its still better than our current class)... also he took his team to the final four so he can coach pretty damn good too.

1. What's his highest ranked class he's EVER had? I'll wait...

2. I never said he couldn't coach?

So apparently it's you, that's wrong on "so many levels".

Unfortunately, if CCM does move on, I think keeping Stokes will be tough. The only way that Stokes would consider staying is if we land a proven head coach.

Here's the thing with Marshall, some others have mentioned...

1. You didn't like Martin's personality, you really won't like Marshall.

2. You didn't like the pace Martin played at, you really won't like Marshall.

3. You didn't like the way Martin recruited, you really won't like Marshall.

4. You're tied in for a long time, so you better hope it works.

Gregg Marshall was recruiting to Wichita State. He would be recruiting to Tennessee and would have a Final Four and a 35-1 season on his resume. He would also have Nike coming on board!

On recruiting, Marshall hasn't been at big name program for you to know that he can't recruit. He understands his school limitations at Wichita St and recruited to his style if play and those players beat us each time and had much more success. I guess those players aren't too bad.

I wasn't saying they're not good players, or that I disagree with his style, if it works who cares.

My point was that we have people here *****ing because our current class doesn't have 4 and 5 stars, or is ranked top 20. They're saying you have to have highly rated guys to win. So my point was if they were complaining about Zo's recruiting even though it produced sweet 16 results, they're likely not gonna prefer Marshall's anymore than Martin's.

Make sense?

So much fail. While I agree that it won't be as easy as people think, we are higher up the ladder than Virginia Tech. Why can't people understand that Buzz Williams clearly wanted out of Marquette? He did it for several reasons. It was no secret that he was going to take the best job he could get. He obviously wanted Tech over Wake Forest or BC (if they were even interested). He also didn't want to wait on other jobs because he wanted out that badly. That doesn't mean that Tech is better than UT.

Oh, I am very sure UT is a better job than VT, but unfortunately perception can become reality quickly. Martin leaves for a lateral move, combined with the current media perception( and reality) that our fanbase is unrealistic and turned on a coach very early (a coach who is currently perceived by most outside of UT as a solid coach with a good future) can make this job look like a no win situation for any coach worth being excited about. My rant above was really aimed at the folks who think Martin getting hired by Marquette has a high chance of being a good thing for UT. Either Martin will be a real good coach and we will miss him, or not but we still got dumped in public by the fat chick.

Tennessee fans will be mad no matter who we hire. They will be mad if CM stays. They will cry about something no matter what. They want new coaches every year and then are too dumb to realize why the Athletic programs are horrible. Easily the most toxic fan base out there right now. This whole deal has been embarrassing.

I disagree. Our fans have been jerked around for years by an inept UT administration. They made horrible football hires twice before Jones and horrible basketball hires except for Pearl. UT is damn lucky our fans care enough to sign a petition instead of simply just not showing up at all for either sport. This fan base has endured Wade Houston, Buzz Peterson, Lane Kiffen and Dooley. We survived being down a couple of decades in basketball and now surviving being down for a long time in football. Amazing we still rank in both major sports where we do in attendance. In particular with what it costs to go to these events. Media elites are ripping fans left and right but our administration doesn't deserve our loyal fan base.

How can this be known at this point in his career?

I know, two years a NIT and a NCAA appearance. Plus years producing top level big men and being a great recruiter at KU. Great name recognition and coach. I think he would recruit light out here. He has the NBA ties and credibility to recruit at a high level somewhere like UT.

Sorry and yes, I agree with most of that. It will not be easy, and fans always have high regard for THEIR coaching positions. Most fans think their football and basketball coaches are great jobs. But, coaches change jobs for different reasons, and it isn't always to get a "promotion." Just like us, they can be unhappy and find a better place.

That could just mean funny how Martin has gone from being pushed out the door to suddenly (some) people are panicking that he's leaving.

Josh's quote could be interpreted a multitude of different ways. I think it's fair to say it's utterly useless to speculate at this point.
