Finebaum Tweet on Cuonzo

Marshall, is, uhm, how do you say, awkward to the extreme in terms of dealing with people. His ability to run a program, deal with boosters/promote, and recruit have always been the knock on him. I know a few people that grew up around him in South Carolina, and most say he is a grade A - A-Hole. That being said, it would be interesting to see his ability to coach can overcome this issue. You can't argue his coaching ability. Expect a steady flow of JuCo's to U.T. if they sign Marshall, that has been his general M.O. I don't think Marshall is a big of a sure thing as most people, but he certainly wouldn't be a bad hire. However, if you thought Martin was boring, you're really going to think Marshall is boring.

I don't really look for a coach to be interesting but I'm just not sold on him as a coach at a major program.

How much would it take?

He currently makes $1.75 at Wichita State.

If Hart was willing to bump Martin to $2.0m can he not afford $2.25 for Marshall?

Especially when you add in the buyout Marin would owe?

I think Marshall would be more in the 2.5 -2.75 range

If this happens and Marshall falls through as I'd anticipate, keep an eye on Akron's Keith Dambrot to get consideration. LeBron's former HS coach, has made Akron one of best and most consistent mid-major programs, supposedly friends with Butch, etc.

Here's the thing with Marshall, some others have mentioned...

1. You didn't like Martin's personality, you really won't like Marshall.

2. You didn't like the pace Martin played at, you really won't like Marshall.

3. You didn't like the way Martin recruited, you really won't like Marshall.

4. You're tied in for a long time, so you better hope it works.

And your take?

He is a bit prickly, but some of his interviews during Wichita's recent run really showed me how much he cared about his players.

Marshall has done a good job while out of the media spotlight. It will be interesting how he responds to the spotlight. That interview he did after losing to Kentucky was pretty terrible.

Number 1 and 2 don't really matter if you can coach. I was fine with Martin's personality. It was the product on the floor that was most often the problem.

In regards to recruiting, Marshall has brought in a decent number of quality players to Wichita. I'd like to think coming off a Final Four run in 2013, an undefeated regular season and #1 seed in 2014, combined with Tennessee's facilities and fan support, he'd have no problem bringing in some top guys.

What was terrible about it? I thought it showed a genuine concern and care for his players.

Looking at more than just his success as a head coach, there is another thing that intrigues me about Marshall. He would most likely bring Steve Forbes home, and there is a chance that we could recruit Memphis. That would really be interesting.

I won't pretend to know anything about the guy, but "LeBron's high school coach" is kind of reminiscent of "Michael Jordan's roommate"

Anyone know what UT has offered Cuonzo? I did hear a rumor from someone who has been right on some things in the past that UT is offering him $2.3 million. But, then that's a huge raise but it is $100K more than Bruce is making at Auburn.

What have y'all heard?

Then switching to nike Lebron comes and drops some shoes on us as well as comes and kicks it with spoelstra and butch and instantly recruits are salivating at the thought of UT athletics. Butch gets it.

I meant to mention that and forgot damn it lol

Yup, Forbes would immediately help in Memphis. Have to think he's much more respected and trusted than Memphis' HC.

Just rewatched it, wasn't as bad as remembered.

I posted this in another thread. This was an interesting name that someone mentioned to me.

I was shocked at his consistency at Akron (9 twenty win seasons in 10 years and the other one had 19 wins). He does have a little baggage, but that was a long time ago.

7 of 9 years took Winthrop to the tourney then a final four and an undefeated number 1 seed with Wichita. I'm not sure what else someone could want, right? :dunno:

But did he come to a lady vols game shirtless painted orange? No? then GET OUT!

Finebaum is the ugliest human being on planet earth hands down. On a side note... I hope cuonzo leaves if he feel the urge to even look around. He has an amazing gig based upon what he's accomplished this far.

What about Danny Manning? Have heard his name thrown around. Don't know anything about him except he coaches at Tulsa and made it to the tourney in his second year. What kind of ball does he play? Uptempo or what. How does he recruit? Etc etc
