Finebaum: The Vols' "program is knocking on the door of greatness."

How about we wait to see how much this team has progressed from last year before we start talking about greatness. We haven't beaten Florida in 10 years, Alabama doesn't even consider us a rival, and I remember when a 7-6 season used to be considered a terrible year. Are we knocking on the door of greatness just because of a couple recruiting classes?
i think there's more to it than that, but in merit, i agree. we haven't exactly set the world on fire with results to warrant the level of expectation some believe will happen in 2015.

it's definitely "show me".

Being a long time Vol fan, it's so easy to get carried away with all the high expectations, especially after the last 7-8 years.
Truth is no one knows how team 119 will respond to adversity and the grueling pace of an SEC season.
I can see anywhere from a 5-7 to 9-3 season, depending on injuries and players being able to step up and contribute immediately.
Go Vol's
i disagree with that. i think we saw how they would respond last season with the adversity they had to go thru.

i think a better question (and it has yet to be answered) is how will this team do with dealing with success?

what if we beat OU? what now? we haven't been there yet, how does this work? What if we beat UF, and we're 4-0 with Games against ARK and GA at home looming?

granted, i'd love to find out. but should something like that happen, i think it would be interesting to see how they handle it. it's one thing to enjoy the climb. it's another thing to get to the top, and stay there.

I don't think so, Eddie. I don't think we get to 12-1 regular season + SEC CG in 2015, and that's about the price of admission to the playoffs.

But I do think at the top end, just about all the breaks going our way, we could get to 11-2 (10-2 regular season and a miraculous win in Atlanta), and just barely miss the playoffs.

More likely is we go 9-3 and just barely miss Atlanta, or just barely make it. That's where I think we'll most likely end up, but it's gonna be really close.

Worst case, we're 8-4 and have broken a couple of those nasty streaks.

No matter which way it goes, it's so hugely great to be back in the football season with our Vols (hey, a major pre-season poll has been published and we're less than a weak from fall camp, I'm counting us as "in the season" hehe).

Go Vols!

p.s. One gets the impression that with Finebaum, it's all about building viewership and he knows Vol Nation is a lucrative target population. I don't believe he's sincere for one minute, no matter who he's touting.

A lot of the "experts" say the SEC champ will have 2 losses. So, if we go 10-2 and then win in Atlanta I think we would be in. Provided one of those losses isn't to Kentucky or Candy. We are a long way from getting there, but if we were to have everything go our way, it's possible. If we can go 9-3 including wins over Florida and Georgia, I call that a great season. Beat Florida and Bama and go 9-3 and that's damn near epic. Anything above that is magical.
