Finebaum saying that after Bama beatdown is appropriate time to Fire CBJ.

Those ears, man.

Mike Tyson could munch on those for days.

Finebaum managed to overcome those ears and land a fat contract on radio and national tv. What’s your excuse?

I despise it when some one hides behind a computer screen and finds it amusing to make fun of someone’s appearance on social media. I don’t think Finebaum had a choice in his ear selection. But he didn’t let the fear of fools mocking them hold him back, love him or hate him.

Entirely possible, it's 100% wishful thinking on my part and to be honest, it won't surprise me if Botch is coaching here next season. NOTHING surprises me anymore.

I don't think he will b coaching next year.(UT).But I think he will b around till end of season.

Whatever you think of Finebaum, he's right. I've thought all along Currie was waiting till after Bama to do the deed.

Few reasons for it:
(1) Biggest game of the season,
(2) No one can argue with the firing if Butch loses to Bama for the 5th straight time, on top of losing to GA + FL in humiliating fashion,
(3) Looks better for prospective coaches; Butch was given a chance to redeem himself after early-season trainwrecks and failed,
(4) Sends message AD isn't making knee-jerk decisions,
(5) No reason to burden Shoop [likely interim HC] with almost-certain loss,
(6) Makes no real difference on hiring next coach; it's still only mid-October; and we're not interviewing anyone for at least another 6+ weeks

This. Yet another example of the insight and logic of the Guru of post-game Take-Aways.

And while nothing official has been, or likely will be announced until probably mid-to-late November, I do believe that the process of identifying the top target(s) for the next HC is well underway.

I think DG is spot-on here, and I also think that Butch knows. I think Currie is above-board enough to have had a quiet meeting with Butch, and laid things out in no uncertain terms. Butch's mannerisms and body language over the past couple of weeks are those of a man who has failed, and knows it.

As always, JMO. Go Vols.

I agree totally. Some of these posters are just low life and this is showing their inferiority complex (reflecting it onto others). They are quite insecure.

Don’t PF state a week ago that he thought there was a chance that Gruden could coach at UT? Then today he states that’s not gonna happen not a chance. Seems like he plays off the drama card to initiate a response lik so many around this joint. He’s WWF or WWE entertainment that’s all

I agree with Paul here. Don’t send an interim to play Alabama. Let Butch take it for better or worse.

Someone may have pointed this out before but Finebaum also said that Tennessee knows who they want to replace Jones.

Reading the tea leaves, that may be Mullen.

Thanks Bob! I wish I was rich so no one could ridicule me. But then again, if I was rich I wouldn't care.

The appropriate time for firing him was immediately following the Georgia game, since the bye week would give the interim coach (Hoke) an extra week to take over. Then we could have been a couple of weeks into the hiring process. This needs to be done quickly for recruiting reasons.

Take Larry Scott with him when he leaves. How many 1st year OC would last this long with the debacle we've seen him display so far. Take Walt Weis also. Oline has underachived all year. WR coach, hes gone too.

I'll be rolling on the floor laughing if Tennessee finds a way to win. I know it won't happen but it would cause chaos.

I guess it's possible he goes on a run of epic proportions...but there is absolutely no way, none, zero, zip that someone not currently on the coaching staff will be the head coach for VU.

The point, which is getting lost, is there is a way to do things like this.

Does John Currie want to show candidates that he bows to the whims of the fanbase? I get that many want their "pound of flesh", but those folks need to put it aside because it's not in the best interest of the program moving forward imo.

You're not understanding me. I'm not saying that a new coach comes in for that game, I'm saying hopefully a new coach is hired by Thanksgiving, IF they can Butch and begin the process of looking for a coach now.

I think I understand you just fine.

I don't think you understand what I'm saying. Whether they fired him after UGA, after the upcoming Bama game or any other upcoming game on the schedule...it is irrelevant.

The AD cannot publicly or "openly" pursue current coaches while the season is going on.

To your other point. Gruden, who is obviously not a current coach, could have met with Currie or any other person affiliated with UT last weekend, maybe he did...whether Jones was the coach or not.

If the players won't play for Jones, that is the only reason to fire and replace with an interim.

To your final point, a new coach...a new coach worth having, will not be hired until the bowls play out more than likely.

I disagree somewhat. I will agree that the wheels have come off the bus. Jones is not going to survive this season.

At this stage in the season, NO COACH could take this team into Tuscaloosa and come out with a win. Preseason, Bama was the one game we all agreed on would be a loss. Just how bad wasn't known until we've watched what each team can and can't do.

So you can't use the Bama game as the pulse - give them credit for firing a coach. The game we should all be worried about is Kentucky. A team we have never feared, not even in this preseason. To leave Lexington 0-5 in the SEC - that's the perfect time to pull the trigger. No doubts there. Funny, Kentucky was Dooley's Waterloo game and it'll be Butch's too.

he stole it from me...:)

GO VOLS!
Yeah. He stole it from me, too, Roller. Here's where Currie's already acting like a complete shmuck: The AD's number one priority shouldn't be the program per se, nor is it the high dollar coaches or those precious dollars themselves. It isn't us alums or the fans and it isn't that bunch of investor barons like Haslam, et al. What or who then? 'Bet some of you got it. It's those athletes. It's those youngsters who're taking the brunt of all this. What's this newby AD doing to make this season best for them? Not much, from this sameolvol's perspective. Since everyone knows that Butch is gone, A bona fide big league AD would have these guys being coached up and prepared to run onto the field with the best prior week of practice possible. They're obviously no longer laying it all out there for Butch. Who would, at this juncture? Currie needs to cease playing footsie with those making all those big bucks, quit kicking the can down the sidewalk and get these young gentleman a leader ASAP. Fahr Butch and make it clear to Mister Currie that he's not making a very good impression on quite a few of us. Being a perennial pumper, I'm sure I won't be the lone wolf calling for this AD following Butch out the door if this next hire is another screwup. C'mon John. Grow a set.

:hi: I think we're on the same page -- "fair" job = "decent" (not good) job and it's time to part ways with Butch. And I agree, with your thoughts about the kind of coach needed.

Thank you for the kind post! A lot is riding on this next hire, we damn sure don't need to keep digging this hole. The right guy can make a big difference in a very short amount of time-but we'll need an asskicking SOB, the team has become "Soft".
