***Posting this, despite realizing that many here could care less what Finebaum says or thinks.

I’m just passing along what Paul (a UT grad) is saying today to his nationwide audience.

He said we should fire Butch on Sunday.
Said it wouldn’t be fair to send an interim Coach to Tuscaloosa to get clobbered.
Said Butch has earned that “honor” after saying the program is ready to take on all comers after five years.

Am I the only one who wonders why in God's name anyone would ever care for one second what Finebaum had to say about anything?

I think it depends on the severity of the beat down. This loss was backed in preseason. If out guys come out and fight, I could see them letting g him coach the Kentucky game. But hey, what do I know? Not much

Hence, the first line of my post.
I care what he says about my school because he has a huge megaphone.
Plus, some think he is a UT homer since he’s a Grad. But in actuality, he made most of his money as a Bama fluffer for 20-30 years in Birmingham before moving to Charlotte.

He has a radio/TV show on the SEC network. He also is on Sunday morning Sportscenter meaning he shapes the view of a lot of people. Media personalities can have a lot of influence...conservative media members help Trump defeat Hillary by influencing voters. AD's watch media and listen to fans and if fans are influenced to not go to games it costs the program big $$$ and so it forces change quite often.

Cronkite...Vietnam...

well if it's punishment we're after, let him have the same fate as Dooley and watch his team lose to KY too.

maybe put a stool out there on the sideline for him too.

JCurrie won't be letting PF run this dept / what is or isn't appropriate. Brick by brick, it probably takes 6-7 games to decide on finalizing a need for a new coach.

People who think this way are the worst of all kind of people.

Since an interim won't likely be retained, I don't care if people think its fair to send them into Bama for their first game. By not firing Butch this past Sunday, our AD is telling the Seniors and other players that sending a lame duck coach into Bama for one last beatdown is more important than siding with them and showing them that the AD is on their side.

Absolute clown show.

The appropriate time for firing him was immediately following the Georgia game, since the bye week would give the interim coach (Hoke) an extra week to take over. Then we could have been a couple of weeks into the hiring process. This needs to be done quickly for recruiting reasons.

Whatever you think of Finebaum, he's right. I've thought all along Currie was waiting till after Bama to do the deed.

Few reasons for it:
(1) Biggest game of the season,
(2) No one can argue with the firing if Butch loses to Bama for the 5th straight time, on top of losing to GA + FL in humiliating fashion,
(3) Looks better for prospective coaches; Butch was given a chance to redeem himself after early-season trainwrecks and failed,
(4) Sends message AD isn't making knee-jerk decisions,
(5) No reason to burden Shoop [likely interim HC] with almost-certain loss,
(6) Makes no real difference on hiring next coach; it's still only mid-October; and we're not interviewing anyone for at least another 6+ weeks

I draw the line at stools. That really stinks.
I understand saying he’s done a s****y job, but ......

Wait, I just realized that you meant a stool that you sit on.....like having an orange chair, an orange dog, orange cane, Very Dooleyesque.

Exactly why I am thinking he is not already fired. A real beatdown for Butch and out the door you go.

I agree. "Giving your all" just seems to apply to players. Bean counters don't have a clue.

i'm sure we could stick a pair of orange slacks in his dressing room for that game too if need be.

I've never been a fan of firing a coach mid-season. The biggest lie out there is that it gives you a jump start on the search. Back channel communications go on whether the coach is fired or not and direct communications can not take place with current coaches.

If the players weren't playing hard, that could possibly lead the AD to make a change to an interim coach, but that does not appear to be the case. In every game this season, the team has showed fight.

Firing a coach mid season also leaves an impression on potential candidates, not a good impression.

Let it play out. We've won three games. Two of those games are versus opponents who are a combined 0-12. The writing is on the wall, handle it with class and we'll be better off in the long run.

GBO!!!

If you wait until after the season it will impact recruiting and some of the best potential coaches may be off the table.
