On his radio show the other day, he would rank the top coaches in SEC history as #1 Bear Bryant, #2 General Neyland, I think Pat Dye at #3 and I don't remember the rest...

What is the rationale of saying Bryant is better than Neyland when his record was 0-7 against the General??? Bear even said himself "I'm just glad the old guy decided to quit".

because he can get away with many things in Alabama but that is not one of them

Because the Bear won 1000 championships according to the Alabama press....And, during that time Alabama was the only team that played football in US...This all according to Alabama media/fans...

Don't cut Bammer Short now. You have to give them credit for the 82 times they were National Champions of East Tuscaloosa and 16 times they were National Champions of West Birmingham.:lolabove:

That means they actually had 1098 National Championships while the Bear was Coach of the Bammer Bubbas, "The Pink Tidie Bolls":whistling:

The Bear never beat the General because the Bear was a Better coach and a good sport. He didn't want to put a blotch on the Generals record. Yeh, right!:censored:

I have no problem with Bear being first b/c of the amount of championships. I think Neyland could have been first, but his dedication to country came first and cost him some quality years to pad the resume.

My problem is having Dye third. I would have to have Spurrier or Vaught at third and fourth.

Pat Dye---3rd greatest coach in history? That is one of the funniest things I've heard in 20 years.

Bear is probably higher than Neyland because he won 150 more games and 3 more national titles... And 8 more conference titles...

that's exactly why the general should be first. that kind of stuff should be taken in consideration.
