Finebaum said Fulmer

Would be the one to get the UT gang back together.

HC - Steele
OC - Tee
DC - Chief

On a side note:
Peerless Price said he would like to get in and coach WR.

I also heard the podcast interview of Al Wilson from the Swain Event and Al implied he would love to help the young athletes.

I bet Eric would help if needed.

This would be a great coaching staff.

Do you really think getting the old gang back together is the way to go, I'm not sold on the idea myself:blink:

I don't want Al Wilson anywhere near this team at the moment.

You realize how easily they get injured right now? Add an Al Wilson on top of that.

"No, THIS is how you hit someone!"

"Umm, can I get a trainer and a gurney please?"

No sh*t. Although, talking to them about playing a good portion of the season by duct taping your separated shoulder in place might help develop a new attitude.

Fulmer spent 17 years passing on having Steele on his staff.

Why all the certainty now he would hire him as HC?

Chavis did mostly well. We all know his two prominent faults...late game collapse and 3rd and long. But for the most part he was a great DC.

I am sure that was Fulmer's thinking.

I suppose it's possible Fulmer brings chavis back, but although I love Chief I think that would be a mistake.

But...he'd be SO MUCH BETTER than Shoop. Not even close.

I am sure others my age have already shared, but getting “top heavy” with Vols (keeping it in the family tree), can be a dangerous accelerant to our dark ages. Just ask the bama boosters, as they recall all too well how keeping it in the family following Bear’s death brought on their own “lost years”, going thru 7 coaches between his death and the arrival of Saban.
Perkins was first up, who played at bama, next Curry, who came into Legion Field w/his Yellow Jackets, and beat Bear towards the end of his tenure. Following Curry’s exit was Stallings, who played for Bear @ TAMU (who had a flash of success in the early 90’s), but was replaced by their own Mike Dubose, and the dark years were well under way for the tide.
Their seasoned fans are all too aware of what we are going thru, just as all programs have ups/downs. I’m not convinced our “saban” is around the corner, but I am very relaxed tonight, as I know we have began to restore order.
Had to add that I’m a N. Bama native, and proud of it, some great folks in the state (not to mention NASA & Mercedes N. America, among other hi-tech enterprises, and Orange Beach ain’t bad either). I just wanted to establish that you don’t need to take any shade off any bama fan, as they have their own version of hell, just remind them, it’s not that far in their past.

Why was Steele’s record so bad at Baylor? I assume there was more going on than his record would indicate at first glance.

That was before Baylor got tired of losing and decided they'd be this generation's answer to SMU.

Trade Steele for Les miles and i love it

Fair enough hey if the man deemed best for the job happens to be VFL, then that's a bonus.

However, at this stage Tee Martin or Kevin Steele are so not even close to being the best men for this situation atm

I would hope UT would want stability and xp, and Tee and Kevin can't provide either really at this moment.

I do not believe a rookie HC or a HC with a 9-36 record are going to be able to pull off guiding this program during these tumultuous times and it could really set us back even further.

Tee or Kevin coming on as HC right now is as much of a doomsday scenario for me as Doeren.

Why don't you people get it? Tee would come in as OC, HC IN WAITING!

I wonder how Swinney ever made it head coach?

Help me out here!!! Why do I keep seeing TEE for HC? He is just a half way decent OC! Why have they kept him thru coaching changes? Don't know! Maybe he's gotten something on the AD. Maybe Poop Dawg has made threats of racism if he cans him. Tee took an extremely talented team that Phil recruited who were excellant as sophmores and juniors when manning played. And next year as juniors and seniors were even better and went undefeated only thanx to a freak fumble by Arkansas QB to allow Tenn back in to win. Without that freak play Vols would have lost the SEC Championship and the national Championship.

That was a forced fumble.
On the sideline, before the Razorbacks series, Billy Ratliff told the offense to be ready, they were going to get the ball back. Arkansas' O line was gassed.

At the snap Left Tackle Billy Ratliff blew into Arkansas Right Guard Brandon Burlsworth turning him so fast he stepped on QB Clint Stoerner's foot, causing him to stumble and fumble. Ratliff recovered the ball. The Vols offense took it and Travis Henry shoved the ball down Arky's throat. Literally.

Hmmmm.....The Razorbacks didn't lose that game on a "freak fumble". The Volunteers TOOK IT.
Determination, perserverance, and (yes) resilience.

General Neyland's 7 Maxims

[/b]1. The team that makes the fewest mistakes will win.

2. Play for and make the breaks and when one comes your way - SCORE.

3. If at first the game - or the breaks - go against you, don't let up... put on more steam.

4. Protect our kickers, our QB, our lead and our ball game.

5. Ball, oskie, cover, block, cut and slice, pursue and gang tackle... for this is the WINNING EDGE.

6. Press the kicking game. Here is where the breaks are made.

7. Carry the fight to our opponent and keep it there for 60 minutes.

All I remember about Finebaum is that he was constantly trashing our program back in the 90s when Fulmer was handing Alabama their rear ends for eight straight years. He got rich by ingratiating himself with their fans by accusing Tennessee of cheating when the real cheaters were Alabama, almost achieving the death penalty. They couldn't conceive of Tennessee actually beating them. Had to be cheating they thought.

If we follow this advice or some of the other cockamamie ideas in this thread, we end up with one of the worst coaching staffs in college football. How on earth do people really think having an inexperienced VFL for HC along with inexperienced VFL assistants is the key to success? It is bewildering. It's a given that our team is going to suck in 2018... But we have to get the HC hire right and Tee Martin or Kevin Steele isn't the answer. If Fulmer goes through with this, we'll have no better than a .500 football team for at least the next five years.

If Fulmer opts to pass over a brilliant offensive mind an experienced Power 5 HC like Leach in favor of VFL's Martin or Steele or Cutcliffe, then the idiotic fans who support this insanity deserve the mediocre results that will surely follow.

With Jimbo leaving and possible Gus to Arkansas, that leaves Randy Sanders and Kevin Steele available. Bring Tee Home, as head coach and those two as coordinators. All are great recruiters and all will be all in for Tennessee. It would take some time to rebuild but they can bring players here...........just my thoughts.

I have no problem with Steele as head coach and could accept Martin as OC, but we could do so much better than 3rd and Chavis......Chavis just kills this whole hiring plan.

Maybe Haynesworth will be on board to coach our D-line? Kevin Mays can coach the O-line and that might get us back in with a certain recruit...
