Finebaum picks Tennessee over Oklahoma

Side note....Finebaum was barred from Alabama campus for a while before Saban got there. By Stallings I believe.

I can't believe that Finebaum picked us to win. I know he's a TN grad but I've hardly ever seen him talk TN up. He's talked more about them the last month than than he's ever has.

Have watched Finebaum since last August. He is fair in his comments and has not dissed Tennessee since Butch arrived. Before that, he was pretty disgusted with the state of UT football.

And so was I.

Couldn't stand the prick during the down years, but face it we're getting back and he gets paid talking up us and the SEC... Let him talk us up.. But he will turn on us if Butch does something stupid..he's quick to talk bad bout us when we lose..

he has been paid to be a Bammer booster and has done a pretty good job of it and let's face it,there hasn't been a whole lot of good from UT in years

When he was here he worked for the Daily Beacon. No one like him then either.
When I was at UT I worked at the Daily Beacon also. I ended up writing sports stories for a daily newspaper outside Philly. My sidekick at the Beacon my senior year is even more famous than Paul Finebaum and is on ESPN several days a week. You all know him...Woody Paige syndicated columnist with the Denver Post.

Even Stevie Wonder can see how good UT is going to be this year..

I think I am more excited to see how great our defense is than our offense. The Oklahoma game will be our chance to finally see what we have this year.

Oklahoma won't be able to punish us with the run this year if K Mac and Tuttle are as good in live action as they look so far. We'll have size and depth to clog the middle and keep fresh bodies there. They're in the first year of switching back to the air raid, which, if you want to try and throw on our secondary, by my guest. If we stop their run and force them to beat us through the air, our deep, solid secondary and vicious pass rush will wreck Baker Mayfield (or whoever their QB is) and give him no time to throw and no open receivers.

I've always liked the way you think Bill!

I have lived in Alabama a LONG time. Listened to Finebaum for years. Basically he turned Bama homey while doing his radio show out of Birmingham.

His show was AWESOME to listen to beginning when Stallings was falling from grace, then the 3 Mikes (Shula, Dubose, Price) and Franchione years.

What Tennessee has gone through with Kiffen/Dooley is (IMO) not near the meltdown Bama had during those years.

Finebaum trolls the fans and when there is a tiny chink in the armor - he sticks the knife in and twists it. Very fun to listen to when Bama is melting down.

Having said all that - I honestly think he's either getting sentimental over UT, or has a big time MAN CRUSH on DOBBS and CBJ.

He worked the Bama fans into rabid dogs about Fulmer. Was it justified? No. Fulmer did what he had to do to get that slimy Memphis stuff exposed (and that has been beaten to death).

I figure most Bama fans don't so much hate Fulmer for that, but for the same reason we dislike Saban. Tired of losing to him.

I have a few friends who are Bammers (I know, ultimate sin) and they say the same thing about Finebaum. His show was amazing back before he turned it into the Gump Talent Show.

Oh man, that's pretty cool.

What were the big stories of your time with the Beacon? Any memorable stories/moments about Paige?

Love the enthusiasm, but may be just another pipe dream.

Maybe, but you OU fans most likely will see a completely different team than the one that came to Norman last season. Doesn't mean UT will win, but a lot of those boys have grown up a lot in the past 12 months.

Tenn should beat ou by over 10 points, ou lost too much and tenn personnel has improved greatly in the past year. ou should lose several games this season: Tenn, Texas, Baylor and Tcu . My big concern is the refs they will be Big 12 and they will do everything they can to screw Tennessee out of the win.

Oh, there was no disrespect meant by my remark. Just saying, gotta love the enthusiasm. Either team can win.

I dont have a good feeling about this game. I have a feeling we are going to struggle stopping their new spread offense.

The spread offense kind of neutralized the effectiveness of the d-line.

And their new OC is supposed to be some kind of boy genius personally recommended to Oklahoma by his mentor Mike Leach.

Hope I am wrong, but spread offenses scare me. Especially the ones in the BIG 12

Our spread sure didn't neutralize any opposing D Lines last year lol.

You know tennessee isnt the only team with players who have improved. OU loses starters on the Oline but keeps everyone at the skill positions. The Oline is still chock full of seniors and juniors with a lot of experience. And picked up some real talent in Mixon and Westbrook, you'll know who they are if you dont already. Plus the new system. And they scored 34 last year. It'll be a fun game, closer than last year i'm sure, but there's no way you do to OU what OU did to you last year.

Big 12 refs are pretty fair, you wont be seeing them trying to screw tennessee out of a win.

I hate to promote this guy that is so desperate to make us watch again, but I was watching the program before finbaum and happen to catch he said today is "Tennessee day" and he will be talking Tennessee most of the day. Apparently Debord on as well. Could be a lot of publicity for us, so I will probably leave it on.
