I am sorry I wasn't referring to the Gatlinburg Country Club when I suggested golf courses. You know real ones like the Atlanta Golf and Country Club, Augusta National, Honors Course, TPC at Southwind, etc. but you are the "expert" remember hahaha. I forgot but you know more than some of the best turf guys in the business

I hope you two keep this going. It's more fun than the normal Thursday crap I deal with at work.

Lol

If you worked at at golf course I assume you know that growing grass at the TBC is different than in Tenn.

It's all about the climate of tenn.

We were talking about Neyland stadium correct??

A lot of the tenn courses that do have Bermuda have champions Bermuda. It has to be covered in cold temps and isn't over seeded

Issue may be jones overuses the field... not giving the field any off season rest ad wanting a green surface year round. see Tony Basilio note on current grasskeeper...

....Why is that Darren Seybold's other fields on that campus at EVERY OTHER natural grass venue are spotless with wonderful playing fields? The Lady Vols soccer stadium is immaculate. Both the softball and baseball fields are wonderful. The track is spotless yet the football field is mess. I'll help you out here. Every other aforementioned surface has down time and is not re sodded every year. I'll give you another nugget. Sources told me late last night that Seybold wanted to top dress the playing field in Neyland Stadium but was rebuffed by the football staff. The purpose of top dressing is to make the field less slick while this also helps keep the surface together during use. Plus, Tennessee hasn't been using a 1/2 inch cleat. Instead, they've been using a 3/8 inch cleat on that surface. This hasn't helped matters..

What has Hart done to handle this situation? never had this issue with previous grasskeeper.. cause may be the way Jones overuses the field year round...
Could hurt recruiting ..Why go to Tennessee and blow out your knee with the horrible field conditions?
Tony Basilio? Seriously, your credibility just went in the tank buddy.

I have no idea about golf course maintenance, but what do they grow on the courses in Fairfield Glade? :wink2:

StoneHenge is bent grass not sure on the others

Edit: all 4 courses at fairfield glade are bent grass but I am sure our resident expert will say he was only discussing the courses that are so far away from knoxville that it would be meaningless to discuss them

Quick question for you guys. I have bermuda grass in the back yard and I've noticed in some of the shadier areas that crab grass is creeping in. What should I do, keep in mind I'm perfectly fine with the change to brown color in the winter...I know, I know, Butch wouldn't stand for that. :)

TIA

The crabgrass should already be on it's way out with these frost

Apply a pre emergence fert in late feb and then again 6weeks later

That should help keep it out next year

What is pre emergence fert, lol?

Can I get it at Lowes or Home Depot? Thanks Bruin...3 months until baseball!

Yes it will say crabgrass prevention but honestly that's not the good stuff

I would just hire someone to do it if a few hundred bucks doesn't kill you

Heck no, the money wouldn't kill me but my wife would! "What is that guy doing?"

I paid him 300$ to come out and spread some pre emergence fert and he'll have to come back another time.

You can figure how it goes from there. :)

Make sure your not dealing with Dallisgrass. This stuff is difficult to get rid of. Literally have to dig it up. I fought with this stuff this year and still have more to get out. Seemed to be worse this year.
