Final top 25

Probably not, but possible. I would say about a 30% chance of an 8-5 team being ranked. It does happen, but it helps it your name is Auburn.

I doubt it.

Not a single point for Tennessee by even a single AP voter in the last published poll. Thirty-six teams got points in that poll, but the Vols were not one of them.

Nor for that matter were the Boilermakers. So we're not gonna get much credit for beating them.

From no votes at all to Top 25 is a lot of ground to make up. I don't see a 7-5 team progressing to 8-5 with a win over a fellow unranked making such a leap.

Yes. Heupel's 2nd season is gonna get a lot of hype from the media and that narrative will begin with a final top25 ranking and the kick-off of Hooker's Heisman campaign.

Of course I’d be happy with a one point win but a 4 touchdown blowout would be nice too and we might finally get a little love from the AP voters in the poll take some great positive momentum into the offseason.

Not likely, since we are currently ranked around 40. A 15 position climb based on an additional win Is probably unprecedented. Purdue is ranked at 31.

by the time the season starts in '22, volnation will have us winning the East and top 10 in the country
I don't know about that, but I do know this. Even this early, I would pencil us in for 2nd in the East, 9 regular season wins, and a final 2022 ranking in the top 25.

That's barring any major bad news over the next eight months. As long as the off-season goes okay, we're going to be the only team challenging UGa for a trip to Atlanta in December.

Future's pretty bright.

Go Vols!

Prolly won't get any receiving votes, and that's fine this year.. Any in the top 25 lose 3 games by 76 points combined?

Agreed. We would have to drop 50+ on them and hold them under 20 points to even get a nod. Given are best defender isn't playing we will likely see a shootout a la UK. Just hoping for a win honesty. The team did what it had to this year and build for 22.

Only 2 8-4 teams currently in and both of those would fall out with a loss.

So my answer is going to be no considering we have 5 losses.

Likely would receive a few votes though

Depends on who loses in front of us. Certainly if any of UK, TAMU, Arky, or UTSA lose their bowl games, and we when ours convincingly, one would think we would receive consideration. Also, Purdue received 36 votes in the most recent poll, so they were just outside the top 25.

It depends on who else loses as well...

With players opting out of lesser bowls, I can't see a bowl performance should make a difference beyond the top 4.

It's not really correct to call a win or loss significant when the games can be decided by opt outs, for instance Purdue losing their two top players and us losing Taylor.

It doesn't necessarily even out so lesser bowls really shouldn't move the needle, IMO.

Looking back at 2019, the Vols finished 8-5 and were 34th and 35th in the final AP and Coaches’ poll, respectively. The Texas Longhorns finished 8-5 and 25th in the AP, and UVA finished 9-5 and 25th in Coaches’ poll in 2019.

If we win the Music City Bowl, we’ll finish higher than 34/35, but probably just miss Top 25. We would need a lot of help from teams ranked slightly ahead of us losing their bowl games.
