I've followed the Vols from Dickey to Fulmer and, though disappointed in yesterday's loss, I can say:
1) Things are never quiet as bad or good as they seem (my daughter goes to Ole Miss and what they would give to be in our shoes).
2) Our program and our University are still held in high esteem nationally. Living in Alabama, I run into Vol fans who have no connection to the State of Tennessee or the University, but became fans because of our color, checkerboard endzones, our playing tough intersectional competetion and a dozen other reasons. We will always be able to recruit well, IMO.
3) The effort put forth by our team in the SEC championship was excellant. This propelled LSU into the BCS championship game. Even Ohio State's Jim Tressel said what a great win it was for LSU. We have nothing to be ashamed of.
4) Though I think it may be time to change coaches, this is not my decision. Nevertheless, I'm optimistic about the 2008 season, whoever the coach. We have an excellant nucleus of talent to build around.
5) We've gone nine years without a SEC championship.......I remember going 16 years in the 70's and 80's without a a ring. I remember being excited over going to a now defunct Garden State Bowl or Liberty Bowl. Georgia went 20 years from 82 to 2002 without a championship.
Have a nice Holiday Season. Some of us will see and be heard in Tampa.
k:
(as an aside, I am always impressed with ex-Vol Charles Davis who was co-host on Fox's BCS Bowl and he always tries to get in Tennessee name).
