Final Spot Speculation

I don't think they ask medley to grey shirt. With Palardy leaving, we need another kicker to come in.

Do we even have another place kicker besides Broadus who has kicked in a game?

Nope. Medley has to be the guy next year. Not sure what George Bullock can do. Darr may be the punter.

To be honest if it comes between Mosley or Malone I would rather have Mosley because we are going to be very thin on the line after this season. I also think we are in pretty good shape at wideouts.

Don't forget, many current commits are still playing. Another factor may be post season injuries, that might force a grey shirt. I hope that doesn't happen, but it is a factor.

As for preferences, I am torn between Mosley and Malone. In the meantime,:beerf:

The sad/awesome thing is that we really don't have more than a couple that we could drop. This class is just so loaded with talent and it all fills needs. Even those couple have tons of potential and with some time on the bench to learn could at least be great "relief" players if not starters by their senior years.

There are players still lining up considering the Vols... David Sharpe, Clifton Garrett, Josh Malone, Charles Mosley, Eric Lauderdale, Jarran Reed, Greg Mclisse, Lance McDowell,....The list goes on...

So who decommits or better yet, who do we not accept?

Forget Mclisse, I don't think the staff is too high on him. Lauderdale is history, we got Pearson. All of the others are up in the air

We would make room for Jackson, Garrett, and Sharpe without a doubt.

Want/Need: Clifton Garrett
Will be: Mosley

Eric Lauderdale had his chance, I would not even consider.
Greg Mclisse would love to play for UT, but IMO, he's not a take.

It's hardly speculation at this point. We will/must add a big DT, 300 lbs +, probably Mosley, but possibly Lamin or Reed. Aside from that, don't fret any de-commits, because there will be commitment from a higher rated player to follow. Jackson, Sharp, Garrett, and Malone are still targets, along with the DTs.

We've reached 29/30 verbal commitments. I don't want to speculate on who might decommit or who might not make it academically. I know there will be some changes til NSD for whatever reason, and I know that certain players may be asked to look elsewhere or greyshirted. Being said, if we end up with these same 29 commits all the way through NSD, who do you all think the final spot goes to? There are a lot of other names on the board that we lead or are 'up there' for: Reed, Lamin, Malone, Mosley, Jakob Johnson, Rollins, Scott, Thomas, Jackson, Garrett, Sharpe, Gennessy, Williams... the list goes on. If you had to pick ONE more, based on need/want, who would it be? Similarly, who do you think it WILL be?

For me:
Want/Need: Adoree Jackson
Will be: Malone

Will be several more

Mosely
Malone
a juco dt
possible RB

Any chance the berry twins are preferred walk on's with big brother picking up the tab so we can add a few more onto the class?

Wait? Final spot? You mean Eric isn't paying for the twin's schooling? Not a true VFL.

Please fine tune your sarcasm detectors before you meltdown.

Greyshirt options: Dews, Medley

I'm confused. This adds up to 30. We only have 29...where is the mistake?

Can we STOP with the nonsense that Dews will grey shirt and the COMPLETE stupidity that the Berry twins walk on?

I beginning to think we have the most ignorant fans in America.

It looks like there are more than one mistake. He added Reed, Malone, Gennessy, and Corey Thomas.

He discluded Gavin Bryant.

He put Medley and Dews on the greyshirt list, which neither will be.

Overall, the list is just fu&ked.

I agree with others in this thread in that there will be more than one more commit taken in this class.

But, in response to the OP...

Want/Need: Reed or Lamin
Will Be: Reed or Lamin

I understand there are needs on both sides of the ball. But, IMO, none greater than on DL. With that said, I think CBJ will do everything possible to get another immediate contributor from the JC ranks.

No disrespect, but Dews has stated he will not greyshirt.
No disrespect, but he may have to go play for one of those smaller programs, if that is his ultimatum. Not to be star-gazing, but it appears that not only is he a 2*, but his offer list tends to reflect that assessment.

When you have to decide between someone like Adoree Jackson, or a soon to be 5* WR, like Malone, and a 2*prospect, who refuses to accept a grayshirt...the decision is rather easy to make.

I think Medley will most certainly be a greyshirt prospect, when it comes time to crunch the #'s. Bullock and Darr will do just fine. Palardy was an all-star prospect as a kicker, and it took him until his senior season to hit his stride. Rarely does a freshman kicker come in and steal the job, unless we simply have no other alternative. Bullock will be a good kicker and Darr will be a good punter.

What's more is, if we are having trouble making the numbers work, you can believe the teams that offered Medley are too.

Nonesense? Says who, and according to whose logic? :loco:

Dews is a 2*...and his offer list confirms that. He may be a diamond in the rough, but if the staff wants to fit Malone, Mosley, Reed/Lamin, and possibly Jackson...then you damn well better believe a 2* is going to get bumped from the list or be asked to grayshirt.

It's not a dirty/degrading term. It's a means to make a low-rated prospect (who was going to be a redshirt freshman anyway) fit the numbers...if at all. It will be a greyshirt or bumped off the list, altogether.
