We finish with this, Mahoney better be ready to sign a JuCo LT and two-three true LT freshman prospects in 2016. Next year, if it were me, every OL we signed would be an OT prospect, and I'm not talking these 6'4" prospects. I want some big boys like Allen, St Louis, etc are in this current class. Plus, you can always move an OT prospect inside, but we've seen this year what happens when you move inside players outside...
This.
Because this continues to give me heartburn. I don't count the numbers of linemen on scholarship every week but I do tend to agree with the coaches about the glaring need for depth along the LOS on both sides.
Both our OL and DL were consistently blown off the line by bigger, stronger, heavier, more athletic lines this past season (e.g. OK, AL, Ole Miss, MO). We all saw it.
They were warriors and fought like men but they were just outmanned and outmuscled and outbeefed too many times.
From where I sit, we can't sign enough big uglies -- 6'5" or better, weighing in 310lbs. or better.
And, yes, amen, signing natural OL at their natural positions might be a move towards prudence, at least from this seat in the stands. Seems to make sense, rather than playing whack-a-mole all season long...but the coaches did what they had to do with what they had to work with this year.
No doubt both lines will be better and more competitive with the big boys next year...
But I'd like to see us build quality depth with at least 8 quality linemen these next two classes.
