Final INT TD return/possible ref blunder/rage party (merged)

I didn't hear it on TV. Nonetheless, UT did not benefit from a bad call. They benefited from the officials weasling out of a horrendous call by saying they didn't blow the whistle.

Ultimately the EXACT correct call was made.

You are truly pathetic.

Lighten up sjt,,,it's volumnus. He's a bit slow and don't understand a lot of things. Oops, I meant to whisper that. Oh well, he's got his helmet on so maybe he didn't hear.

I'm sure vandy fans care. And we know ya'll would care of it happened to you...

Bad call

The only call made was an interception, fumble, knee down. Thank god for replay. BTW, the ref said whisle wasn't blown (???)...of course I wouldn't owe up to it either...because just llike you said...bad call. I guess two wrongs can make a right.

Im a Vol fan alright my family is alumni of UT so nobody should doubt my strong fandom for Tennessee.

Please stop quoting VolAnus. It defeats the purpose of the ignore filter. If you want to respond to him, just hit reply. Please don't quote his damn drivel so the rest of us have to see it. Thanks.

I just call things the way i see them. Im happy as heck we got the win,but anyone should have doubts if this coaching staff can get it done. We want Bcs bowls and championships i dont want to be happy and content with Liberty Bowls and big wins over Candy.

But it did get blown. Congrats on the win.

The point of having replay is to get the call right. They got the call right. You're an idiot if you're going to sit there and jump up and down and claim that the right call should have been ignored because of a technicality.

I don't post much here anymore but how can any of you feel good when Vandy plays us off the field regardless of the outcome? This was the cherry to the top of the crap storm the '11 season has been thus far. What a huge bag of abortion....

the official who said it was a fumble should be suspended at the least... he was prob the one who said our fullback was holding a few minutes earlier..

They just said on the post game show that the reason the re-play booth did not take into consideration the whistle is because there is NO audio in the booth, just video. Guess there is about to be another change due to UT dramatic game finishes. I'm sure there will be audio in the re-play both form now on. It's just nice to be on the winning side of the replay crap for a change. These refs need to stop blowing the whistle on continuation plays like this and just let the booth handle anything close. GO VOLS!! GREAT WIN!!

I thought they routinely reviewed every scoring play anyway? But as has been pointed out, his knee wasn't down and that is what the final call was, so, justice done.

Nice win under pressure--regardless of opposition.

Not happy with everything that went on. You've got 12 seconds and are at midfield. How about taking the timeout at 12 seconds and giving your kids one shot at getting into field goal range?

But the good far outweighs the bad. Down 21-14, with every reason in the world to feel sorry for yourself, the kids responded to these coaches (the first time I've seen them do it this late in a game under adversity). The offensive line showed up in the scoring response to Vanderbilt's lead and I hope to see more of that on a regular basis--especially in the red zone.

Enjoyed the performance of the defensive backs late in the game. This was obviously a group learning to read what Vanderbilt was trying to accomplish and taking advantage of Franklin/Rodgers going to the well two times too often.

They've lost focus before in this situation. They didn't lose it this time.

Beat Kentucky. Get these kids to a bowl game. And let's use that time to further develop them. That is the key thing right now.

It does look like the ref blew the whistle, but in the end the correct call was made regardless.

I said early on in the game thread that the ESPN audio sounded like it was in the Vandy band section. You could hear their band playing and whistling better than you could the commentators. Possibility that the whistle came from there, considering no other refs blew the play dead as they typically do?

if you listen to kessling's play call there clearly is a whistle.

refs just absolutely gagged that play ... even ruled it a fumble not a pick

Some of Dooley's, Chaney's, and Wilcox's decisions had me shaking my head tonight.

The Neal Wildcat formation was disastrous in our 2nd series.

Dooley's clock management right before overtime was atrocious. We should've called timeout immediately with 12 seconds left, try to gain about 20 yards, then spike the ball to get a FG if we get enough yardage. Instead, he waited to call a timeout with 2 seconds left and then what does he do? Take a knee. I mean...WTH?

Wilcox had the defense playing way too soft on Vandy's final drive in regulation. We allowed them to gain significant yardage and get out of bounds. That's exactly what you are NOT supposed to do on defense in the 2 minute drill.

Okay, that's my criticism for the night. Having said that, I'd take an ugly win over any kind of loss every day of the week.

frost yourself Geek....this is a VERY young team in case you haven't noticed and just about every commentator picked Vandy to win.....let everyone enjoy it while you have a glass of wine with your boyfriend....what harm is there in that?

Barnhart and Schlabaugh (Talking Football) picked Tennessee to "find a way to win and they would pull out a close win in the end"....and all I read was how stupid those guys were! Even when the media guys pick us it seems to piss some people off, I guess they would feel better if no one ever gave us a chance. Go figure!
