i'm assuming final fantasy is not volnation's cup of tea?

game is beautiful, controls are wonky and will take getting used too, and very linear. also pretty ridiculous story.

yay japan!

Loving it so far.

Graphics wise, the most beautiful game I've ever seen. I don't know how many times I've stopped to rotate the camera and look around at the surroundings (and no, not just to look up Vanille's skirt or Lebreau's hind quarters).

It is indeed linear, but I like it a lot.

Love the battle and character growth systems.

I like most of the characters. So far, I'd have to say Sazh is my favorite.

In chapter 7 now, and so far I can say its better than FF6 or FF7. Easily better than FF7.

Sazh may be the best FF character there is. I'm really liking him.

ff6(or is it 3?) was incredibly overrated. anyways, square has got to start giving us something like towns or areas to actually explore. this linear crap is repetitive and some of the characters are grating on the ears.

FF3 has no equal. Closest was FF7...

Which ever was on Super Nintendo was awesome remember playing with friend trading off playing as it took forever to beat. Was an awesome game. I also played one on playstation was very good as well. Played one briefly on P2 and was like uhhh old news now and nothing new about it.

....What in the hell is this game actually about? I've seen commercials for it that look games ranging from Resident Evil to American Idol.

I'm actually tired of towns in RPGs. I get sick of running around, pressing buttons and talking to people who provide worthless info. FF12 was the absolute worst at that. I like in this how you don't even have to press a button to talk to somebody most of the time. They just talk on their own. And every NPC has their own VA.

Plus it lets them focus on developing the main characters more. This is probably the first FF where I like all the mains.

And really, I'd much rather look at these gorgeous locations than boring old towns. Man some of the places...sheesh. I still find myself moving the camera around and just staring

That said, my one complaint about the linearity is not being able to go back to some of these locations. Like, speaking of towns, I would love to go back and visit Palomporom (a nod to the twins of FF4; better than both FF6 and FF7 btw :) ). Such a cool looking city.

Lastly, I'm really surprised at SE for having the nerve to (highlight for spoilers) put lesbians in this. At least they're hot tho. Yummy.

I never saw what the big deal was with FF6 (FF3 in the US). I mean don't get me wrong it was a fun game, but FF7 blows it away.

Bought FF13 but waiting to finish MGS4 first. Personally, I like the open world options more than linear ones like FF10.

I'm probably the opposite. I like the more linear aspects, because I think it lends to better storytelling. Maybe that's why FFX is my favorite. In fact I thought FF6 and FF7 would've been the best until they opened up more, then they kinda fell apart IMO. Like I thought FF6 really fell apart in the world of ruin, and FF7 fell apart after disc 2.

Its odd tho, cause I've been playing ever since FF1 (the 3rd RPG I ever played behind Ultima and Dragon Warrior for the NES). And FF1 was mostly about exploration, and very little about story. Its funny how the series (and my tastes) have changed, but I actually like the storytelling aspect of it more than the exploration part of it, now. I think that's the strengths of FF4, FF6, FF7, FF8, and FFX. And I think those games are the cream of the crop.

All a matter of preferences I guess.

Anyway, in FF13's defense, I'm on chapter 11, and it really opens up there. There's a huge world to explore, and its a lot of fun. There's a hunt system kinda like FF12's, and its a blast. I need to go ahead and finish cause I like the story and the characters, but exploring is fun too.
