Can you point out another example of when he should've stayed in the pocket? I agree that one was egregious (though they were in a prevent defense and I'm not sure he would've found an open man anyway, but that's besides the point). I didn't see one. If anything, I noticed once or twice when the OL broke down and he kept his eyes downfield a half second too long before trying to break the pocket.

I can't without watching the game again. There was one other time when it was similar I'm 99% sure. I'm thinking 2 others.

If it is worth it to you, I'll look again. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong but it stuck in my memory.

FSU's QB was mostly facing pressures from blitzers or DEs coming from the edges though. He's obviously a much better QB than DObbs, but this is a bad comparison. When your center lets a DT right by him by the time the QB has received the snap, there's not much any QB can do. A lot of the pressures Dobbs saw got to him before any routes could develop: FSU's QB also faced a lot of pressure, but it was a different kind of pressure that allowed time for passing routed to develop.
Some were excusable.... but some were Dobbs not managing the pocket correctly.

I agree though that Thomas was the weakest link in a pretty weak chain.

This is an objectively bad opinion. Edit: Especially since our OL hurt us so badly in both the passing and rushing games. Their poor play ended a handful of plays before they ever had a chance to develop. It is objectively more questionable.

Obviously I disagree. I like Dobbs. He shows some extraordinary gifts in some respects. But I don't think he manages the pocket well or shows nerve when facing a rush. And he flat out misses on too many passes by either failing to place the ball well or by not reading the coverage well.

Threads like these make me chuckle. Reading some of the responses in this thread, one would think coaching is a simple thing thats all wrapped in a neat little box. Our coaches do it for real, not on Madden like VN.

If you are really offended by UT fans discussing and criticizing and praising UT football.... you are probably in the wrong place.

And you think he's as much of a problem with the offense as an OL that literally allowed half of our first half plays to end before they had a chance to develop? C'mon man. Short of having Cam Newton back there, there's very little that could've been done differently last week with how badly the OL played and how badly we schemed to attack their defense.

May have been a little hyperbole.... but not much.

Do you really think Dobbs played great and was just sunk by everyone else? That's what it sounds like you are demanding.

at least the O-line was consistent...They couldn't pass block or run block.

So no then. Got it.

I can't say anyone on the offense played "great", but IMHO there is no QB I've ever seen who can manage a pocket nor have a successful passing game when he is repeatedly pressured right up the gut. When that type of pressure happens as often as it did against Appy, then the QB isn't likely to be close to his best the other times when there's more effective blocking as he can never get into any type of rythem from expecting to have to scramble very pass play.

Dobbs' heave ho interception is as bad of a play as he's made as UT's QB and he missed locating a few open receivers. He didn't put on a superman cape and carry the team to victory, but by no means would I put the terrible offensive performance on his shoulders. Again, this is my observation formulated Thursday night while watching the game. It appears all the so called analysts are agreeing with what I saw. Still, it's just my opinion.

Where did I say he played great? I'm saying the OL was a much bigger problem than Dobbs last week and their struggles only exacerbated Dobbs'.

Don't see what's so hard to understand about that.

What I take issue with is the statement that Dobbs was "as much of a problem as the OL."

It's just an objectively wrong statement. The OL negatively affected all facets of our offense. Dobbs' poor passes only hurt the passing game (and many of those were passed under pressure because the OL couldn't beat a 3 or 4 man rush consistently).

Well, since you refused to accept the olive branch....

Dobbs throws late and off target often. THAT pretty much by itself gave ASU a shot to employ the strategy they used. So in effect, Dobbs' deficiencies as a passer were as much a problem as the obvious failures of the OL. And if Dobbs doesn't prove he can burn teams that do what ASU did.... it isn't going to be the season we all hoped for.

This was an "objectively" correct assertion.

Don't be an ass when I was trying to let a fairly meaningless and subjective argument pass.

I'm not the one who refused to offer any examples of my assertions and stooped to name calling, bro. Sorry if my challenging your faulty assertions hurt your tushy.

Everything except the bold part is correct. The bolded part is an objectively wrong and ignorant assertion that you only fail to recant because Of ignorance, bias, and/or pride.
