15-21 is pretty good. Hopefully the mistakes on the OL were corrected. I believe our receivers will ball this year if they get the opportunity

Muffed punts, INTs, targeting, and dropped TD passes are quick fixes. I am not sure bad OL play can be fixed in a week. Unless, maybe, you are talking about putting new players out there. If any OL were playing injured in game one, it may be time to look at Boulware, Mosley, Sanders, and forget about Jones redshirting.

As far as our WRs, the talent is there, but Dobbs didn't have time. That, and much like last year, several seem to be dinged up already. Croom didn't play and Jennings, Smith, and Williams were all in green jerseys Tuesday.

There were at least two or 3 occasions out of those 9 when Dobbs broke the pocket when he didn't have to. It was holding and he ran into pressure.

The OL and especially the middle 3 deserve a ton of criticism. But Dobbs manages the pocket poorly at times making the OL look worse than it is.

An example can be found at about the 8 minute mark of the 4th qtr.

Most of the time it is wise to fix people problems one at a time. Just based on what I was able to see from watching this game over and focusing on the OL.... here is how I think they played from worst to "best". None really played great.... some just stank less than others:

Worst- Coleman
Wiesman
Kendrick/Robertson
Richmond

Richmond's performance probably needs to be taken with the understanding that they may have simplified things for him and shifted the burden to more experienced players.

I posted I think over the weekend our starting OL lineups for each game last year so I know everyone except Richmond has played a ton of snaps - against elite SEC level defensive lines. I know Butch can't throw the guys under the bus but something was wrong and it wasn't imo that App St was so good. I just don't think our OL showed up for the game which is why I have very high hopes for their performance this Saturday. These guys may not be all-world but They.Are.Not.THAT.Bad. imo.

I reserve judgment on Dobbs. I figure he's back there thinking "What the hell is going on?!" and it might have caused him to lose trust in the OL before the rest of us did. jmo.

Why are they wanting to redshirt Jones? I just don't get trying to redshirt someone who could be better than a starter.

I don't think they're that bad either. Coleman and Wiesman.... maybe... but Coleman has somehow maintained Jones' trust since he stepped on campus. That's not the first time he's had a smaller player run over him. It happened fairly regularly when he played OT.

I know they need OT's but it seems that Kendrick is a "fair" option at OT but would be a pretty good option for OG. For his first time out, I thought Richmond played reasonably well. Robertson to me didn't play horribly but not as good as we might have expected based on the last time we saw him.

I think your last paragraph is fair if that's what you choose to do. But I watched FSU's Fr QB stand in and take an absolute beating worse than anything Dobbs faced. Because he did, he threw for over 400 yds and 63% completions against a pretty good SEC D.

IMO, Dobbs is just as questionable as the OL.

O line play needs to improve and our qb needs to go through progressions a little more before taking off. I am hopeful that we will see improvements this Sat

They likely don't think he's better than the starter or perhaps others they can plug in there.

I personally think Jones brings a mean streak that is sorely missing from this group.... but CBJ hasn't called me for advice yet.

As you can plainly see, Coleman was having issues with that left taped ankle. The DL was taking advantage of it and that was painfully obvious.

So basically everything can be summed up in one sentence such as: As the o-line goes, so does the hopes of Tennessee.

Honestly, I don't think it's that they don't think he's better. I could be and may likely be wrong but I think they want to keep him for the future and think they can get by with the guys they've got. Sort of like the Marcus Jackson redshirt.

On the other issue I thought there was a time when protection broke down that if Dobbs had taken off just a hair sooner there was a gaping hole he could have exploited for a sizeable gain. I don't dispute your analysis - just think it's an 11 man game and none of them are going to always be perfect. I do think improved performance in the OL play will make a marked difference in our overall offensive performance. Maybe the same can be said for every position group but in a LOS league it's probably got to start up front.

One thing that I noticed that hasn't been mentioned.

There were times when the O line actually held up well in pass protect and Dobbs didn't recognize the open reciever quick enough.
Eventually the d line will get loose and Dobbs normally takes off during the situations when he can't find open receivers. Against Appy st. He didn't take off and the d line got to him.
