Here's some talking points that I'd like to discuss.

Filling Needs:
(Offense): Malone, Dobbs, Weisman, Kamara, and Croom are big losses, but the maturation of players like Calloway, Johnson, Dormady/Guarantano, Fils-Aime, Chandler will be key. The OL looses only Weisman and the 1st time in years we have some depth. Last years class of Johnson, Niehaus and Tatum to do along with this years signees of Smith, Locklear, and Calbert gives us a good nucleus for development by Wells and Mahoney (if he's retained).
Chandler is polished and will gain experience behind Kelly. Two players need to step up out of Fils-Aime, Coleman, Chandler, and Jordan. We'll need three that's ready to go in Sept.
Out of the WR's, Byrd and Johnson, and Calloway gained valuable experience last season as Freshmen. Smith and Jennings will require others to step up and be ready to contribute. Murphy, Jones, and Palmer will be looked to for help at this production thin position.

(Defense): Was atrocious period. The will to read, shed, fill and tackle weren't there as a unit. I know it was Shoops 1st year, but hopefully we get that ship righted this year. We are losing Foreman, Lewis, Vereen, Reeves-Maybin, Barnett, and Sutton, but only a few of those guys have been really productive for us. The latter will be missed on and off the field. Coach Shoop really needs to get some productivity out of Phillips. To me he's not lived up to his potential. Bain will be improved and showed some promise when called upon. Butcher and Johnson should be healthy and ready to contribute. Mixon, Kongbo, Vickers, KMac, and Tuttle, will have the task for getting Crosby, Bennett, Butler, and Thaxton ready to go. Those guys will also benefit from Taylor and Picou.
Our LB corps should improve with Reid, Ignont, and Page. Jumper and Kirkland need some help and fast. Reid and Page are fast, slideline to sideline Lb's that aren't afraid to hit.

The backend should be reinvigorated by Coach Warren. Foreman and Sutton are gone, but we are experienced with Buchanan, Martin and Mosley, Gaulden, Abernathy, KellyJr, and I'm anxious to see the development of LaBruzza, Bailey, Sham, and Gray. Competition develops improvement.

Team 121 is such an important year for the success of the program under CBJ. Really hope a dynamic QB emerges from that competition. As we saw from Clemson, a dynamic QB talent - one that can consistently make all the throws - can really make a big difference in overall team success.

Health is key for this year.. we watched our defense dissipate last year after injuries.. Warren should turn the secondary around.. IMO defense will be better this year

There has to be a better option than Martin. He proved last season once you get in his head he checks out completely

Thanks AllVol. You know health should be always a concern. But, we have to remember injuries always happen. High ankle sprains can't be prevented. Shoulder injuries to JRM, Mosley and Foreman were unfortunate, but good tackling form is paramount. That's were QUALITY depth comes into play. Every player needs to take every practice snap as a means of improving and not to go through the motions of practice. You never know when you will be called upon. When Hurd went out. Kelly stepped in and stepped up, seizing the moment as he should have.

I am not yet convinced that we have the defensive speed that we need to compete in the SEC. We need to replace Cameron's speed and so far I haven't seen that we have it.

I hope that I am pleasantly surprised

Martin had an issue with CWM. I'm looking to see Martin have a breakout season with coaching from CCW

I think Martin has had an issue with authority and am hopeful a new coach will be good for him as well. But he still needs to grow up a little.

Maybe, but I understand that every technique he had been taught prior to CWM was tossed out. The DB's were merely told don't get beat deep, and were discouraged from breaking on the ball. He was frustrated by Martinez.
New coach should pay off big time.

Cam was a good player for us. I feel with the right coaching, LaBruzza, Bailey and Sham can contribute early. I think Coach Warren will get Buchanan and Osborne into playing with an edge instead of playing like they're unsure of themselves.

Really think we have the personnel to compete at a high level and I think this class will help with that. Key is whether or not we can stay healthy.

I doubt the injury bug hits us as hard as it did this season. With that said, we should be much better defensively. Reid and Page can get sideline to sideline fast. Ignont will help in the middle with Kirk and Jump. That back-end will improve under Warren. I think Crosby will shock some people. He gets after it.

What's your take on the TE position?
Thanks

What's your take on the TE position?
Thanks

This is a position that will really test the coaches ability to develop. With Branisel leaving, Croom graduating, Johnson's lack of grasping the position, it will be left up to the Wolf Boys and Austin Pope. Brown who signed this class is a converted QB, so he'll have a learning curve coming in similar to Johnson converting from LB. He'll probably be used as an H-Back like Croom was used instead of an in-line TE like Wolf. Since Eli and Austin have a season under their belts, it should give Brown time to develop.

What happened to the TE that signed out of DC a year or two ago? He was recovering from major knee surgery I think. Is he still around?

Will he ever be a contributor there? He was supposed to be so athletic. I know his knee was suspect at the time.
