I think having Medley do a lot of kicks outside his range may mess with his confidence and that could sometimes be adverse to his performance on what should be his gimme kicks. Sometimes, though, (the FL game), he's our last hope. We put him in a situation where he could be a hero but the odds may not be in his/our favor.
Actually, Medley's safe range is anything under 40 yards....he's been really good from there. But once he gets 40 yards and beyond, it's anybody's guess. I can understand beyond 50, where he's about 0-3 or 0-4 lifetime. But he's also been very bad 40-49 and that just has to change this year IMO.
I'm not so sure that "Palardy was (an) MVP"...
Or Tennessee was still sucking so bad on offense...that Palardy was a bright spot for some kind of points.

I recall very clearly people talking about him being the MVP of that team given his great work handling placekicker, punter and kickoff duties. Of course, that team was so horrific that saying you're MVP of the 2013 team is akin to being the smartest kid in summer school, so you're right there.
But Palardy took a tremendous step forward under Butch very quickly and was just outstanding that year after 3 disappointing years prior. Thus far, Medley's been a disappointment both years under Jones. Hopefully he turns a significant corner this season.
Yeah, I went back an looked at all 31 FG attempts last year and under 40 yds he hit 16/19 for 84.21%. Above 40 was 5/12 or 41.67% and only 3 of those were beyond 50, the last attempt at FL, and 2 of the 3 misses at Bama. The other miss at Bama was still beyond 40.
If we can get away with limiting our FGs to less than 40 yds this year, Medley will look like a god to the masses and CBJ a genius.
7/10 misses were wide right. At Bama his first one (43) was wide right, then he over corrected on the second one (51) and went wide left, then overcorrected again and went wide right on the 3rd attempt (51).
One good omen is that in the last six games, he went 12/14 for 85.71% including making 4/5 from beyond 40 yards. Maybe he's already got this figured out.
Was it 2014 medley kicked the first part of the year nursing an injury?
Reserving optimism with Medley until he proves he can make a big kick in a pressure situation vs a good team. He's 6 of 18 in his career so far on kicks beyond 40 yards....that ain't cutting it. He has a strong enough leg, just looks to me like his problem is between the ears, which is a big concern. Last year vs Bama was the biggest sign of that IMO. He missed the kick you mentioned, got a do over due to penalty, and then missed that kick even worse than the first by either over correcting or just pure mis-hitting the ball. Good kickers don't do that IMO.

Ummmmm did we just forget what CBJ'S was able to do with Palardy? I'm not worried about the kicking game at all.
