Field conditions

The Titans really need to switch to Field Turf and get rid of the natural grass like every other NFL team not in FL
yep. They could add so much more there - HS games, band competitions, drum corp competitions. The rumor I always heard was that Jeff Fisher didnt want it. Well, he's gone so lets make the move
Either that or get a domed stadium closer to lower broad

Band and drum corp competitions? My heart pants.

We could have used him - not sure anyone else has battled similar challenges before. Everyone is from Central Florida.
Hope Fraz is ok. I was a manager on that citrus bowl team, cooper was just pissed his crew didn't pack the long cleats.

They gave him a shoutout during the game on ESPN. No mention of what it was. Hippa laws applied, I guess.

But had he been there? I am sure they would have brought a cleat that works better in wet conditions. If anyone over there
knows his job, it is Frazier. And you probably know that better than me.

Did it appear to y'all that the field conditions affected us more than Purdue? It sure did to me.

Purdue had the cleats needed. Appears UT failed to pack the cleats they needed.. Purdue plays on similar turf a lot up north like that. I'm sure UT has longer cleats in their supplies, just failed to use them..

You would hope so, but Frazier, I am pretty sure, is still our top guy in equipment. Probably one of the best in college football. We missed him.

Different cleats would not have changed the piss poor officiating. But that edge probably would have been key.

Id argue no NFL teams should have fueld turf. The stuff is better than astro turf but is still nasty, still rips your skin off, and those little rubber pellets are gross. NFL teams should just ve forced to invest in proper maintenance of their fields considering all the money they make. There is simply nothing better than playing on grass. Plus the 49ers and Titans played there a week earlier and nobody had a problem with slipping

Yes. We did slip more often than Purdue. On the Titans pregame today they discussed it. They said it was actually like that the last Titans home game. They worked on it extensively before today's game with Miami.

Based on my eyes IMO Purdue offense wasn't that slow compared to our snail paced defense. Both teams played on the same field.

Having been on football staffs for 30 plus years I learned from a great coach and man early in my career,

1. Blame yourself and teams play for losses and not outside excuses. Losers make excuses...winners don't have to.
2. Never let the refs have to make a decision..ie don't fumble and let them decide who got the ball....On a pass don't let them decide if it's a catch or non catch.....If it's 3rd-4th and a yard don't just get the yard and let them decide if it' a first down or short...etc.etc. You will lose the majority if you make them decide.
3. Never piss off the band boosters.
Uh ok Phil

It appeared to me to have an overseed of winter rye grass. Even on golf courses that chose to do this (less and less are nowadays) it can be very slippery and almost take on a sheen effect which can be tricky. CLEARLY it was a major issue for the Vols.

The reason some golf courses have moved away from it as much is because it can create issues in Bermuda the following Spring when it breaks dormancy. Perennial ryegrass especially competes for nutrients in the soil and depletes food stores in the soil. It is generally why a lot of courses only over-seed tees and greens. It’s expensive and has to be sprayed

100% correct. Winter rye is a great cover blade….enriching the soil like red glove? Not so much. Actually most playing fields have gravitated away from this as well. And the development of more cold tolerant competition grasses as well. But it sure looked like that field at Nissan for MCB had some overseeding which would clearly contribute to lack of footing.

So.....some equipment manager is looking for a job?
