Field Conditions

When UT changed to natural turf, they did a great job. Explained how the filed was domed and discussed the drainage system underneath. For years it was first class without fail.

Seems like they got away from proper field management or did not make adjustments... that initial field was resilient... someone is messing with a good thing.

Butch's fault IMO

Butch's plan to turn public opinion against grass and install field turf is working like a dream. Maybe if he'd let the grounds crew manage the field like they want to, our field would once again be first class.

This is atrocious. The worst I have ever seen at Tennessee. It puts the players at risk when they are on it. It is pitiful.

Field turf should be down. And for the old farts that isn't a strong turf it's grass turf. Not even close to the old crap.

No turf. Field maintenance folks just need to bring in some experts for a quick tutorial. With 2 weeks till the next home game, it might be possible to re-sod the field. Of course that option is expensive for just one game's benefit.

There is a difference in the field looking great and holding up. The field looks great before warm ups but it cannot even hold up thru warm ups. The new staff is definitely struggling. Also replacing it every year I don't think helps with a solid surface.

I love grass and do not want turf but we need to find a new field maintenance crew.

It is hard to know for sure, but it seems that from the way the grass is coming up that Shields-Watkins field has a drainage issue again. And the reason it becomes an issue is it's proximity to the Tennessee River. And it is totally fixable without using that synthetic crap.

I hate to say it, but I think we'll be looking at the new engineered field turf next season. If you remember, it looked really bad last year too. At some point, you have to make that decision.

It's youth! No other field has been played on with so many blades of grass that have no experience. The field needs time to learn to win vs being pulled up in chunks by simply being walked on.

No, man, it's DEPTH!

Takes 6-7 years to build a decent SEC field.
