I'm not sure what a "higher rate of contraband" even means without more context. However, these statistics are perhaps more reflective of the overall environment (note: Ferguson has such a small population there didn't seem to be much information).

In St. Louis, African-Americans are 49.2 percent of the population, but are responsible for 92 percent of homicide, 78 percent of rape, 93 percent of robbery, 87 percent of aggravated assault, and 82 percent of burglary.

No, but the context is that those rates are in relation to traffic stops and car searches. When cops conduct vehicle searches, they aren't looking for rapists, they are looking for contraband.

I've already asked questions. I've already expressed an opinion. You have answered none. You like to argue. I could say the sky was blue or water is wet and you would argue. You constantly bring up things that have no bearing, if to nothing more push your agenda against law enforcement and/religion.

I read the link you posted and I'm still not sure I understand it, which is why I was searching for additional data. Plus, I'm assuming you realize that Ferguson is essentially north St. Louis.

At the same time, while blacks make up two-thirds of the population, they are twice as likely to be stopped by police as whites, 80 percent of stops are of black residents, and they account for 93 percent of arrests and 92 percent of searches. This despite cops finding contraband on 34 percent of whites stopped but only 22 percent of blacks, according to a racial profiling report from the Missouri's attorney general last year.

  • cops find contraband 34% of the time they stop whites and 22% of the time they stop blacks.
  • blacks make up 2/3's of the population but are twice as likely to be stopped (maybe whites don't drive around as much late at night? I don't know... could be a number of reasons... including profiling).
  • 80 percent of stops are of black residents, and they account for 93 percent of arrests (note: they must be finding something?)

What does this mean? Is this a higher rate of contraband possession as in they have more of it on them? Or is it white people are caught at a higher rate with contraband? I mean should go without saying. More white people get DUI's, commit robberies, drug offenses, have jobs, get degrees, play video games, etc. Why? There are way more white people in this country.

Look at the per capita ratio's..those are where your mind gets blown. And saying minorities are easy targets..is that an assumption that chances are they are doing something illegal or have something illegal on them? And if that assumption proves to be true time and time again..well..this might be scientific theory becoming scientific law..

Anonymous is leaking pictures of Jon Belmar's family (Chief of Police for St. Louis County) and without getting into the politics, his son having a Confederate flag up on the wall isn't going to go over well.

The "Witness" account of this story is absurd. Cop jumps out..shoots at kids. One kid stops with his hands up. Cop shoots kid. Kid turns around kneels on the ground with his hands up (while being shot...) then cop walks over and empties the clip into him?

I believe the police even stated that a round went off in the car, presumably when the you hardworking socioeconomically disenfranchised college bound youth was attacking the cop.

Wow a kid with a confederate flag in the south? Say it aint so!

I remember going to high school with a guy who unfurled two confederate flags and stuck them in these post holes in the back of his truck bed, every morning. Get to school, wrap em up, leave school, unfurl and display. I always thought it was kinda of funny, and hokey.

Also they are claiming the person in this video is a police officer either in Ferguson or surrounding areas and have released their name and street address.
