The decency angle only has to do with our reaction to the events as outsiders. Surely we can agree that the riots are terrible and counterproductive without turning the event into open mic night at the improv.

Decent people don't rob convenient stores and assault the worker on the way out. Decent people don't claim they saw the officer shoot the kid in the back as he was running away. Decent people don't need tear gas and rubber bullets to know looting and burning businesses is wrong. Decent people don't use the death of a person to make money and further a racial agenda.

As I said, I'm all for freedom, but freedom is a responsibility and when it's abused and violated, there needs to be reprucussions for it.

I love it. You loot and riot and complain about the police state. I'm all for freedom but when freedom is abused, I'm all for order. Extreme times call for extreme measures.

The problem is that the other side of the coin is that authority was abused (allegedly, time will tell) and so the "abuse of freedom" as you refer to it is a response to authority that they don't want to validate.

No easy answers. You don't necessarily know what's going to calm things down or escalate them.

Laughter helps. Laughter not only bonds people together but it also reduces tension between rivlas. I personally think this is a perfect time to inject humor especially considering none of us can do anything from our keyboards to rectify or inflame the situation
