I haven't read through this thread, but here's a name that's not going to float amongst a couple of the top candidates...Randy Edsall?
There's a couple of more people I'd rather have, but I think he's a decent coach. What are your guys' thoughts on him?
Randy Edsall is right at the level he needs to be.I haven't read through this thread, but here's a name that's not going to float amongst a couple of the top candidates...Randy Edsall?

Before this season started, I may have agreed, but this season has gone about as bad as possible. We lost to a worthless UCLA that suffered its worst defeat in about 80 years the next week. We got ripped by Florida to graduate a class that hasn't beaten the Gators. We lost to Auburn. We have Georgia and Alabama coming up soon, both look like they could be ugly. South Carolina could beat UT, and Vanderbilt has looked better so far this year. Not to mention that Neyland is having trouble filling up, and it is supposed to get worse. Tennessee could possibly finish 5-7 or worse, bowless, and that may drive Hamilton over the edge. All moot pts.
Fulmer not going anywhere
The coaches he's hired aren't to blame for that record.
If Hamilton does have to make a new hire for HC, who is the Bruce Pearl right now of college football in terms of charisma (sp?), marketing ability, and good solid coaching? Hamilton has to take a look at how he found Pearl and follow a similiar formula for the football hire. He has a budget to hit and a football coach like Pearl would have Neyland busting at the seams in ticket sales, shirts, etc . .
Not that Neyland up to this year is not sold out, it would just be like boosting an already fast car with more power.
Yeah, I'm sure a Super Bowl ring and having guys like Ray Lewis, Jamal Lewis, and Ed Reed ready and willing to shill for you would not be good selling points.Everybody wants to throw out these pro coaches as alternatives, but you forget a very important piece of the college puzzle that they have no concept of -- recruiting. Now, some of them (Gruden and Kiffin, for example) have some college experience, but I don't think Cowher or Billick have ever coached at the college level.
If you cannot recruit, you cannot win (see Spurrier at S.C.). I would not want that unknown.
Good point. Look what a terrible recruiter Pete Carroll has been.Everybody wants to throw out these pro coaches as alternatives, but you forget a very important piece of the college puzzle that they have no concept of -- recruiting.
