Feldman says he has a hunch that Kiffin will be our coach!

Yeah, like John Madden, Tom Flores, Mike Shanahan, and Jon Gruden.

I said last 10 years. And if you look at the last 10 years aside from gruden, they've never been above .500.

Do you really want to discuss how the raiders have had good coaches in recent years, please go ahead.

The coaches he's hired aren't to blame for that record.

I haven't read through this thread, but here's a name that's not going to float amongst a couple of the top candidates...Randy Edsall?

There's a couple of more people I'd rather have, but I think he's a decent coach. What are your guys' thoughts on him?

16-30 record at Uconn. Can he recruit in the South?

Randy Edsall is right at the level he needs to be.

All moot pts.
Fulmer not going anywhere
Before this season started, I may have agreed, but this season has gone about as bad as possible. We lost to a worthless UCLA that suffered its worst defeat in about 80 years the next week. We got ripped by Florida to graduate a class that hasn't beaten the Gators. We lost to Auburn. We have Georgia and Alabama coming up soon, both look like they could be ugly. South Carolina could beat UT, and Vanderbilt has looked better so far this year. Not to mention that Neyland is having trouble filling up, and it is supposed to get worse. Tennessee could possibly finish 5-7 or worse, bowless, and that may drive Hamilton over the edge.

We're getting off topic on something that wasn't even my point.

My point is that his first and only HC job was with the raiders. He hasn't proven himself as someone who delegates powers well. And that hiring him as a HC would be a gamble on our parts, because we have nothing to judge him on but as an OC and recruiter, which he has a good resume for I might add.

If Hamilton does have to make a new hire for HC, who is the Bruce Pearl right now of college football in terms of charisma (sp?), marketing ability, and good solid coaching? Hamilton has to take a look at how he found Pearl and follow a similiar formula for the football hire. He has a budget to hit and a football coach like Pearl would have Neyland busting at the seams in ticket sales, shirts, etc . .

Not that Neyland up to this year is not sold out, it would just be like boosting an already fast car with more power.

Everybody wants to throw out these pro coaches as alternatives, but you forget a very important piece of the college puzzle that they have no concept of -- recruiting. Now, some of them (Gruden and Kiffin, for example) have some college experience, but I don't think Cowher or Billick have ever coached at the college level.

If you cannot recruit, you cannot win (see Spurrier at S.C.). I would not want that unknown.

Harbaugh would fit the bill

I agree that Harbaugh is worth an interview. We need the p*** and vinegar of youth. That is why I think Kiffin, Sarkisian, etc. are worth considering as well.

Yeah, I'm sure a Super Bowl ring and having guys like Ray Lewis, Jamal Lewis, and Ed Reed ready and willing to shill for you would not be good selling points.

Good point. Look what a terrible recruiter Pete Carroll has been.

That is something to consider. In fact I set forth a few things that, IMO, made hiring a recruiter here even more of an issue than at a lot of other places in another thread.

I've never been super high on Muschamp, but what do you like about Venables over Muschamp?
Venables is essentially a younger version of his boss. Whoever gives him his first head coaching job will reap a bountiful reward.

i don't think you can have a conversation about coaching at UT and recruiting be overlooked. hndog...good stuff in that post you linked.

Has he ever coordinated a defense without Bob's help? I forget if he hung around K State awhile after Stoops left.

He was the co-coordinator at Kansas State in '98. I remember the Wildcats being pretty good that season.

What about VN's favorite sleeper candidate for the OC job last winter? Chris Hatcher! I suppose he's not a good idea right now if we can get one of the big names being discussed, but I'm confident he will eventually be a highly successful major college football coach.

Can't see Chris Hatcher happening with the struggles Clawson's had. I also can't see Hamilton making such a risky and easily questionable call.
